Abimaq Shows That Sales of Machinery and Equipment Had the Best Performance Since January 2015, When Sector Revenue Was R$ 13.2 Billion

The Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment Industry – Abimaq, announced that in January, the total revenue of the Brazilian machinery and equipment industry was R$ 12.5 billion, an increase of 38.5% compared to the same month in 2020. According to the association, this was the best performance since January 2015, when sector revenue was R$ 13.2 billion.

The CEO of Abimaq, José Velloso, stated that “After a long time, around seven years without investing, companies need to renew the industrial park. Otherwise, the park becomes obsolete and productivity falls. Much of the sales of machinery for the industry comes from the renewal of an obsolete industrial park,” while explaining why machinery sales continue to increase without raising the investment rate.

Sales and Exports:

Of the total R$ 12.5 billion, R$ 9.6 billion came from sales to the Brazilian internal market, which is 50.8% higher than in January 2020.

“The segments that signaled an increase in sales include agricultural machinery with advancements in companies of all sizes. Another segment that has contributed to the rise in internal sales is machinery for infrastructure, greatly encouraged by the progress of the Investment Partnership Program (PPP),” states Abimaq.

In terms of exports, revenue from equipment in this industry in January was R$ 545.8 million, a decrease of 1.6% compared to the same month in 2020. Compared to December, exports fell by 28.1%.

“Exports of machinery and equipment were strongly impacted by the reduction of global trade due to the pandemic in 2020. After growing by 0.9% in December, machinery exports dropped by 1.6% in January 2021, in line with the seasonality of the beginning of the year,” concluded the Association.
