The Investment of R$ 1.5 Billion Will Be Allocated to the Aripuanã Project in Mato Grosso. Many Job Openings Are Expected in the Mining Project

The largest mining project in the state of Mato Grosso received approved investments from Sudeco (Superintendence for the Development of the Midwest) last week, through the Midwest Development Fund (FDCO), benefiting the company Nexa, formerly Votoratim. The investment will be used for the implementation of a project to increase the productive capacity of the mine in the city of Aripuanã, generating many jobs for the region.

The project approved by Sudeco, with an investment of R$ 1.5 billion, aims to explore and process zinc, copper, and lead in the Serra do Expedito, in Mato Grosso. Through the FDCO, 7.5% (around 115 million reais) of the total project value will be guaranteed. The local economy will benefit from the new jobs that will be generated.

The mining company’s plans foresee the exploration and processing of zinc, lead, and copper in the Serra do Expedito, in the state of Mato Grosso, whereby the miner will be guaranteed 7.5% of the total project value through the Midwest Development Fund (FDCO), which is currently in the implementation phase, with operations scheduled to begin in early 2022.

Nelson Fraga, superintendent of Sudeco, states that he believes in the potential of the mining company’s project, promoting the attraction of new investments in the state of Mato Grosso. Fraga also mentions that, in addition to promoting economic circulation, several jobs will be created, benefiting the population.

The total project is expected to receive a direct investment of around US$ 547 million, and it anticipates the exploration and processing of zinc, copper, and lead in the Serra do Expedito, 25 km from the city of Aripuanã.

The mining company says it seeks to incorporate the most modern technology and operational excellence into the Aripuanã Project in Mato Grosso, as well as a sustainability vision in all processes. Some examples include the goal of reusing 100% of the water, the construction of a dry tailings storage facility, and a focus on creating a legacy for the community.

In terms of production, the average annual extraction at the site is 70,000 tons of zinc, 4,000 tons of copper, and 24,000 tons of lead, and the mine’s lifespan is 11 years. Approximately 1,600 jobs are expected during the project’s implementation phase, and 750 are anticipated during operations, resulting in around 2,350 new jobs in the state of Mato Grosso.
