LG, the Korean Multinational Giant and Largest Electronics Company in the World, Ends Production and Closes Its Factory in SP, Leaving About 1,000 Workers Without Jobs
After Ford, another major multinational is closing its doors in SP. After announcing it has ceased mobile phone production in all countries due to accumulated losses of around US$ 4.1 billion, the Korean multinational giant LG will also end its notebook and monitor production at its Taubaté factory, leaving nearly a thousand workers without jobs in SP.
The announcement was made last Tuesday (04/06). LG stated that it will transfer its production lines to Manaus. Only the call center operation will remain in the São Paulo city. With this, the metalworkers’ union estimates the layoff of 700 of the current 1,000 LG employees in the region.
To the Taubaté union, the company stated that the decision was made due to having tax benefits in Amazonas and not having the same exemptions in SP. The entity will have new meetings with LG until Friday and is seeking to reverse the decision.
