Crater of Diamonds Park in the United States Allows Visitors to Take Home Diamonds and Other Rare Stones Found in Its Volcanic Soil

Have you ever imagined finding a diamond while walking in a park? That’s what happened to Micherre Fox, a 31-year-old from New York. She found a 2.3-carat stone at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, in the United States.

The discovery marked the end of a search that had lasted over a month. Her goal was to find the perfect jewel for her engagement ring.

Park Has Unusual Policy

The most important thing is that Crater of Diamonds State Park has a different rule. Anyone who finds a jewel can take it home. This attracts thousands of visitors looking for their own precious stones.

Since 1906, more than 75,000 stones have been found at the site. Just this year, 366 people found diamonds.

Of those, 11 were over one carat. Therefore, it’s not just about luck, but persistence and attention.

In addition, the park is known for its volcanic origin, making the region one of the richest in diamonds in the United States.

Diamonds Formed Billions of Years Ago

According to information released on the park’s official website, diamonds began to form over three billion years ago.

The process occurred deep in the Earth’s mantle, where carbon transformed into crystal due to high pressure and temperature.

About 100 million years ago, a volcanic eruption brought the stones closer to the surface, creating a large crater.

Over time, erosion left the diamonds concentrated in the soil, where they can be found loose.

Other Stones Are Also Found

It’s not just diamonds that attract visitors’ interest. The public can also find amethyst and agate, which are scattered throughout the same soil.

The detail is that many jewels removed from there are never evaluated or cut. Even so, the chance to leave the park with a precious stone remains the big draw.
