Building and Retrofitting New Volkswagen Electric Car Factories
It is estimated that Volkswagen’s new manufacturing unit in Germany will have a production capacity of approximately 250,000 electric cars per year. According to VW’s CEO, Ralf Brandstaetter, building a new factory will be a more complicated task than retrofitting existing plants so that future lines of electric cars, including the Trinity, can be assembled.
The CEO also mentioned that due to the difficulty of erecting a new factory, the planning focuses mainly on the structures already existing at the site where the factory will be built.
According to Volkswagen’s management, the planning also aims to gradually modernize the factory, enabling production levels to rise in the future without the need to build a new factory from scratch—unless for strategic reasons.
Future of VW Trinity
According to Volkswagen’s main CEO, Herbert Diess, the automaker aims to produce a Trinity every 10 hours, as that is the average time it will take to build Tesla’s Model 3 in its upcoming Gigafactory in Berlin.
Even though Volkswagen’s shareholders have already approved the Trinity, they will still evaluate the company’s spending plan to decide on VW’s next five years in the market. Therefore, the final decision will be made based on the factory’s potential, already in December.
