Volvo Confirms It Will End Diesel Car Production in 2024
After years of production and tradition in the sector, Volvo confirms it will definitively leave the diesel car market. In a statement, the brand announced that starting in 2024, it will stop producing vehicles equipped with this type of engine to focus on its electrification strategy and emissions reduction. According to statements from the company during the New York Climate Week, in a few months, the last Volvo diesel car will be built, making the company one of the first automakers to take this step.
Until 2019, for example, the majority of vehicles sold by the brand in Europe were diesel-powered. Meanwhile, electric cars represented a very small percentage of total sales. Currently, the trend has reversed, and most of the Volvo cars sold in the region are fully electric.
