Novelis Invested R$ 750 Million to Expand Its Aluminum Recycling Plant in Pindamonhangaba, Promising to Generate Dozens of Job Openings for the Region. Considering Only the Aluminum Recycling Sector, the Plant Will Have a New Capacity of 490 Thousand Tons
The world leader in aluminum sheet and recycling, Novelis, announced this Tuesday (23) the expansion of its aluminum sheet plant located in Pindamonhangaba, which promises to create several new job openings. After investments of R$ 750 million, the plant, which is the largest in South America, will have a total recycling capacity of 490 thousand tons of aluminum and 680 thousand tons of sheet production per year. The inauguration of the plant in Pindamonhangaba was attended by customers, partners, authorities, and suppliers, such as André França, Secretary for Environmental Quality of the Ministry of the Environment, André do Prado, State Deputy, and Isael Domingues, Mayor of Pindamonhangaba, among other entities.

Novelis Generates Over 2,500 Jobs in Pindamonhangaba
The plant’s project, which began in November 2018, included improvements in aluminum recycling, plate preparation, remelting, hot and cold rolling, logistics, and finishing.
The expansion of the plant added a constructed area of 21 thousand square meters, totaling 220 thousand m² of constructed area, primarily benefiting the beverage can sector, among others.

Novelis Comments on the Expansion in Pindamonhangaba
In the past year, the company inaugurated a rail terminal capable of transporting 25% of the outbound and inbound cargo. The company also purchased an additional area of 30 thousand m² already looking for future opportunities. This is the second major investment just in this decade at the company’s plant.
During the construction phase, the project generated around 2,500 job openings, most of which were filled by professionals from the region. According to Steve Fisher, CEO of Novelis, recycling and expanding the use of recyclable materials is essential to Novelis’s sustainable journey. According to the executive, the company will continue to seek and invest in projects like this expansion to create multiple job openings.
