Xiaomi Launches Its First Electric Car. Delivering 431 Horsepower, Xiaomi’s Electric Car May Cost R$ 200 Thousand.
In the last year, Xiaomi announced financing for startup Gongjianpai Auto Technology. Now, its first product has just arrived and it’s not a smartphone. It is the SSC SC-01, a sports electric car, but with characteristics of classic combustion models.
Xiaomi’s Electric Car Delivers 431 Horsepower
In Chinese, the sports vehicle is called XiaoPaoChe, which, in Portuguese, is something like “small sports car.” Hence the acronym SSC (Small Sport Car). The model weighs only 1,370 kg due to its tubular steel chassis.
This way, the 431 horsepower and all-wheel drive provided by the two electric motors are enough to propel Xiaomi’s electric car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5s. The vehicle’s batteries have a capacity of 60 kWh, with a declared range of 520 km and charging from 30% to 80% done in 25 minutes.

The 18-inch wheels are accompanied by Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires. The disc brakes have six pistons in front and four in the back. According to Xiaomi, it’s a setup superior to that of the Porsche 911 GT3. The dynamics of the electric car are further enhanced by the dampers, pushrod suspension, and steering column with aluminum joints.
Inside, there is an LCD instrument cluster and a three-spoke sports steering wheel wrapped in leather. The center console is not equipped with an armrest, featuring only the rotary gear selector and electric window controls. On the ceiling, the model has a button panel that includes controls for the air conditioning and windshield wipers, VL2 system.
Xiaomi’s Electric Car Will Cost R$ 205,905
On the exterior of the vehicle, there are full LED headlights, LED taillights, and an automatic retractable roof, while the interior offers a digital cluster and a three-spoke sports steering wheel with flat bottom and circular controls. The SSC SC-01 is a small two-door roadster with strong Italian inspiration in its lines, measuring 4.105 m in length, 1.830 m in width, 1.160 m in height, and 2.500 m in wheelbase.
The new electric vehicle from the Chinese manufacturer is not equipped with a multimedia center. The sporty seats are bucket-style and covered in Alcantara, so that its proposal is faithfully followed. The official price of the SSC SC-01 has not yet been officially disclosed, however, there are reports that it will be sold in the range of US$ 41,300, equivalent to R$ 205,905. Its arrival in the Chinese market is expected in 2024.
Xiaomi Will Invest 10 Billion Dollars in the Electric Car Sector
The multinational Xiaomi recently obtained essential approval to manufacture electric cars in China. This is another step for the company to begin the production of electric vehicles by the beginning of next year.
According to sources, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), which regulates new investments and production capacity in the Chinese vehicle industry, approved Xiaomi this month. The Chinese company had promised an investment of US$ 10 billion over a decade in the automotive sector.
While waiting for approval, the company advanced in the venture, completing the construction of facilities capable of producing up to 200,000 electric cars per year in Beijing, according to a report from the state newspaper Beijing Daily. The company’s goal is to produce its first electric cars in mass by the first half of 2024.
