Zeca Pagodinho Creates Community Garden in Duque de Caxias with Support from UFRRJ and Already Donates Over 1 Ton of Food to Residents in the Region.
In July of this year, Zeca Pagodinho gave new meaning to the space on his property in Duque de Caxias (RJ).
The singer, known for his charisma and generosity, allocated 8,000 square meters of land for the creation of a community garden that has already distributed over a ton of food to residents and solidarity kitchens in the region.
The initiative arose with the purpose of promoting solidarity and sustainable cultivation, combining social actions and food education.

Solidarity Born from the Land
The transformation of the land, previously covered with pastures, was the idea of the artist’s son, Luiz Carlos da Silva.
From this, a fertile space emerged that now supplies the community with fresh fruits, vegetables, and legumes, harvested in an agroecological manner — that is, respecting the environment and without the use of pesticides.
With support from the Zeca Pagodinho Institute, the garden also aims to promote food autonomy.
Partnerships with UFRRJ and Embrapa Boost the Initiative
The project has the backing of significant institutions, such as the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) and Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation), in addition to the City Without Hunger project.
These partnerships help implement sustainable cultivation techniques and promote training courses for residents of the region.
Currently, 30 students are participating in agriculture courses offered by the Institute.
They learn everything from soil preparation to planting and harvesting, applying the knowledge in their own backyards, turning them into productive spaces.
Community Garden That Generates Food and Hope
More than just food production, the garden created by Zeca Pagodinho has become a symbol of inclusion and sharing.
The initiative fosters a sense of community and helps combat food insecurity in one of the most underprivileged regions of Baixada Fluminense.
With each harvest, the products are distributed for free to solidarity kitchens and families in social vulnerability.
Besides providing food, the project inspires other communities to create sustainable gardens, reinforcing the importance of urban agriculture as an affordable and ecological alternative.

Education and Sustainability Side by Side
The presence of UFRRJ and Embrapa in the community garden in Duque de Caxias also strengthens the technical training of residents, showing that growing food can be a powerful tool for social and environmental change.
The practical and collective learning transforms participants into knowledge multipliers, promoting a culture of sustainability and cooperation.
Thus, the project envisioned by Zeca Pagodinho goes beyond planting — it plants hope and harvests solidarity.
Legacy of Zeca Pagodinho: Sharing What You Earn
With the community garden, the artist reaffirms his commitment to the community and the environment. The phrase he uttered summarizes the spirit of the project:
“Life has to be like this; no one can live alone. Everything has to be shared. That’s life, sharing what I earned.”
By transforming his property into a space for learning and sharing, Zeca Pagodinho shows that solidarity and sustainability can go hand in hand.
The garden in Duque de Caxias is an example of how simple gestures can create significant social impacts, inspiring similar actions throughout the country.
