New Developments in the Pickup Segment Promise to Shake Up the National Market. Check Out the Beasts That Are Coming!
The Brazilian pickup market is about to receive a series of new developments in the coming years, with at least 10 launches scheduled to arrive in the country. These new trucks promise to diversify even further the options available to consumers, with models ranging from updates of already known models to new entries in the market. Check out below some of the trucks that are arriving!
Volkswagen Amarok
The Volkswagen Amarok truck, manufactured in Argentina, will receive a redesign in South America. The new front end, inspired by the Saveiro, is expected to debut in the second quarter of this year. The engine is expected to remain the 3.0 V6 turbodiesel with 258 hp and 59.1 kgfm, but there may be an option for the 2.0 TDi four-cylinder in more affordable configurations.
Mitsubishi L200
The new generation of the Mitsubishi L200 truck, already undergoing tests in Brazil, is expected to be launched in early 2025. Produced in Catalão (GO), the new L200 will feature a completely renewed platform and design, including a redesigned dashboard with a digital instrument cluster and floating multimedia center. The 2.4 turbodiesel engine will be updated to 214 hp and 48 kgfm of torque, with a six-speed automatic transmission and a payload capacity of 1,060 kg.

Renault Niagara, the Oroch Replacement
Renault has unveiled the concept of the Niagara truck, which will replace the Oroch. Expected to be produced in Argentina starting in 2026, the Niagara will feature hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive. With a design different from the current Oroch, its size will be closer to that of the Fiat Toro, indicating a possible coexistence between the two models in the brand’s lineup.
Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 100% Electric
Both the Ford F-150 and the Ram 1500, two of the most iconic trucks in the United States, will have electric versions. The F-150 Lightning, with 588 hp and a range of 386 km, and the Ram 1500 Revolution, with a 3.0 six-cylinder Hurricane engine, more efficient and powerful than the current 400 hp V8.
GWM Poer and BYD Shark, Hybrid and Electric
The Chinese GWM promises the Poer, a plug-in hybrid pickup, expected to arrive between this year and 2025, with local production in Iracemápolis (SP). BYD will bring the Shark, also a plug-in hybrid, with external charging and nearly 500 hp combined. Both promise to revolutionize the market with their technology.
Jac Hunter, Electric or Diesel
JAC will launch the Hunter pickup, an update of the iEV-330P, with a 2.0 turbo configuration of 170 hp and 41.8 kgfm of torque with 4×4 traction. The electric version of the pickup will have 204 hp and 30.1 kgfm, in addition to rear 4×2 traction, with the battery capacity increasing to 77 kWh, improving the range.
Toyota “Torolla”, Competitor of the Fiat Toro
Part of Toyota’s investment of R$ 11 billion in Brazil, the “Torolla” pickup will be a competitor to the Fiat Toro, based on the TNGA-C platform of the Corolla and Corolla Cross. With production in Sorocaba (SP) between 2026 and 2027, it will be the debut of the plug-in flex hybrid technology developed in Brazil.
Volkswagen Tarok, Production in São José dos Pinhais (PR)
Volkswagen will invest R$ 9 billion to produce the Tarok, an intermediate pickup in São José dos Pinhais (PR). With a 1.5 TSI Evo2 engine, delivering 150 hp and 25.5 kgfm of torque, the Tarok will be a strong competitor in the segment.
