Launch of FPSO Represents Technological Advancement and Strategic Partnership Between Brazil and China in the Oil and Gas Sector
The state-owned Chinese ZPMC launched the largest floating production, storage, and offloading unit (FPSO) in the world, intended to operate for Petrobras in the Búzios field. This achievement marks a significant advancement in offshore exploration and reinforces the partnership between Brazil and China in the oil and gas sector, according to Offshore Energy.
Details of the FPSO P-82 Unit
ZPMC announced that the FPSO N1151, known as P-82, left the ZPMC Qidong Marine Engineering dock on July 11, just over a year after the inauguration ceremony. With a length of 360 meters, a width of 60 meters, and a depth of 34.3 meters, the FPSO P-82 stands out as the largest FPSO project in the world, with a hull steel structure weighing over 80,000 tons.

Production and Storage Capacity
The FPSO P-82 has a storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels of oil and can produce daily 225,000 barrels of oil and 12 million cubic meters of natural gas. This impressive capacity will allow Petrobras to significantly increase its production in the Búzios field, where the company is the main operator with an 88.99% stake. The partners CNOOC and CNODC hold 7.34% and 3.67%, respectively.

Strategic Importance for the Búzios Field
The Búzios field, located in the Santos Basin, is one of the largest and most productive pre-salt fields in the world. The addition of the FPSO P-82, which will be the tenth platform installed in the field, will further strengthen Petrobras’ production capacity in the region. The start of operations for FPSO P-82 is scheduled for 2026, aligning with Petrobras’ expansion plans and its strategy to maximize production in the pre-salt layer.
The construction and launch of FPSO P-82 by ZPMC for Petrobras reinforce the strategic collaboration between Brazil and China in the energy sector. This partnership not only drives the technological and industrial development of both countries, but also strengthens bilateral economic relations.
