Since 2014, Determined by Former Mayor Quaquá, the Emissary Will Discharge into the Sea of Maricá, Rio de Janeiro, the Effluents Generated by Comperj.
At the Rio de Janeiro Petrochemical Complex — COMPERJ, operations for the construction of the Submarine Effluent Emissary are at the final stages of completion. Did you know that more than 50 Comperj workers were fired last week for clocking out 15 minutes before the end of their shift?
The works had been halted since 2014, as determined by former mayor Quaquá, due to non-compliance with requirements for counterparty obligations for the project.

The submarine emissary from Comperj will discharge the effluents generated by the Rio de Janeiro Petrochemical Complex into the sea of Itaipuaçu, about 4km from the coast.
The project was resumed after the state oil company Petrobras established a Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC) for the environmental licensing of Comperj and the Effluent Emissary.
