Enel Green Power, Energy Company, Has Recently Signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a Project with the Government of the State of Ceará, the Installation of a Plant Focused on the Production of Green Hydrogen in the Region.
During last Thursday, (07/14), Governor Izolda Cela, accompanied by the Secretary of Economic Development and Labor (Sedet), Maia Júnior, signed a memorandum of understanding with the energy company, Enel Green Power, for yet another venture in the region. This is a green hydrogen production plant, a project aimed at harnessing the high potential of the state of Ceará and boosting the local economy by generating jobs and income during the construction phase.
Government of Ceará Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Enel Green Power for New Green Hydrogen Production Project to Be Installed in the Region
The Brazilian energy market is now opening its doors to various ventures focused on the green hydrogen sector, and the two main states that stand out in this field are Ceará and Rio Grande do Sul. Now, the Ceará government has taken another step in this sector by signing a memorandum of understanding with Enel Green Power for the installation of a resource production plant in the state.
The project will have several phases until its completion, but the energy company intends to leverage the production potential from the first stage and will install the Green Hydrogen Fortaleza project, with a capacity of up to 400 MW of electrolyzers already in the first phase.

With R$ 17.2 million, Equinor expands strategic sugarcane biomethane project and boosts innovation that can convert Brazil’s agricultural potential into a new source of high economic value renewable energy.
Thus, the president of the distributor Enel Ceará, Márcia Sandra Vieira, commented on the projections for the plant and said: “Our intention is to develop a project in Quixeré and integrate the Green Hydrogen Hub in Ceará, generating development and advancing in the decarbonization project of our energy matrix.”
Although it is well advanced, the Enel Green Power green hydrogen production plant project is still in the feasibility study phase. However, if the production potential for the plant’s installation area is confirmed, the company has already stated that it intends to use the water electrolysis process, utilizing 100% renewable energy, for resource production. In this way, the company will not only ensure more efficiency in production but will also contribute to reducing environmental impacts in the production chain.
Green Hydrogen Plant Project in Ceará Is Not the Company’s First for Brazil and the Company Seeks to Expand Its Presence in the Segment
Enel Green Power has been observing the high activity in the national energy market regarding green hydrogen production and intends to take advantage of the favorable scenario to develop its ventures in the field. Thus, the project to install the production plant in Ceará is not the company’s first, as it signed a letter of intent with the government of Bahia in April to facilitate a venture in this segment in the northeastern state.
Therefore, the company is conducting technical, commercial, legal, and financial feasibility studies for the future installation of a resource production project. And, with the development of these ventures, Enel Green Power continues to expand its presence in the national energy market. The company already has a renewable installed generation capacity of 3.7 GW in Brazil, becoming a reference in leveraging the country’s productive potential regarding these resources.
Finally, the Ceará government is also looking to expand the green hydrogen market, and besides the project for the energy company’s plant installation, it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese company Higer Bus to facilitate the future installation of a factory for battery and hydrogen electric buses and trucks.
