Mercedes-Benz is ready to launch its much-anticipated electric G-Class at the Beijing Auto Show later this month, bringing an electric revolution to the iconic G-Wagon. The vehicle, which is being presented as a fully electric version of the legendary off-roader, has generated excitement since its concept was revealed in 2021, according to Electrek.
The highly anticipated electric vehicle, known as the G-Class EQG, was initially unveiled as a concept at the Munich Auto Show in September 2021. Since then, Mercedes has been revealing details about the vehicle, including extreme climate tests conducted by CEO Ola Källenius near the Arctic Circle.
Emmerich Schiller, managing director of the Mercedes G brand, stated that the company is committed to maintaining the off-road capabilities of the electric G-Class, ensuring that it is at least as good as the internal combustion version in every aspect.

Performance And Luxury Combined
The electric G-Class features a quad-motor system, delivering exceptional off-road performance, along with the luxury and refinement that G-Class customers expect. Mercedes plans to offer different models, including a flagship AMG model.
While final details have yet to be revealed, Mercedes suggested that the electric G-Class will have a range of about 320 to 350 kilometers with a battery of approximately 100 kWh. The vehicle will also feature a sealed battery for wading in deep waters and a protective casing made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer.

Durability Testing And Production
Before entering production, the electric G-Class will undergo 300 ascents and descents on the 5.5-kilometer trail of the iconic Schoeckl, ensuring that the vehicle is equipped to face the toughest off-road challenges. Mercedes is also planning to launch a smaller electric G-Wagon, potentially offering a more affordable option compared to the current G-Class model, which has a starting price of US$ 143,000.
With the imminent reveal of the electric G-Class, Mercedes is poised to raise the bar for excellence in electric off-road vehicles, offering a perfect balance of performance, luxury, and sustainability.
