New emergency unit at HC de Ribeirão Preto will have an investment exceeding R$ 700 million, 24-hour operation, hundreds of beds, and a structure focused on severe cases, with an anticipated impact for over 2 million residents from 26 municipalities in the region
The Government of São Paulo is investing over R$ 700 million in the new emergency unit of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto at USP, a structure expected to expand high-complexity care and benefit over 2 million inhabitants from 26 municipalities in the region. The technical visit to the construction site was carried out by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas this Wednesday (6), as part of the Caravana 3D program in Ribeirão Preto.
The undertaking was planned to address a care bottleneck at HC itself and strengthen the regional urgency and emergency network. The new structure will begin operating with almost 400 beds and, with the completion of the planned stages, will reach 582 beds, intended for clinical and surgical hospitalization, ICU, isolation, and emergency.
Emergency unit will provide 24-hour care for severe cases
The new emergency unit will be dedicated to treating high-complexity cases, operating 24 hours a day with a specialized multidisciplinary team. The service was structured to receive patients with severe and potentially fatal conditions, including acute myocardial infarction, stroke, adult and pediatric traumas, as well as other clinical and surgical emergencies.

The Brazilian GDP grew by 1.1% in the first quarter and recorded the largest jump in four quarters, but economists warn that the war in the Middle East, high interest rates, and El Niño could slow down the economy precisely in the second half of the year.
The proposal is to increase response capacity in critical situations and enhance the resolution of regulated cases. The new structure should also contribute to reducing response times in more severe occurrences, with a direct impact on the organization of regional assistance.
Governor Tarcísio de Freitas stated that the complex resolves a bottleneck at HC and will allow the transformation of the space where urgency and emergency care currently operates into a reference center for oncology. He also highlighted the partnership between the state government, the City Hall, and the University of São Paulo to expand the reach of care to the population of Ribeirão Preto and the entire region.
First stage will have 393 beds and final capacity will reach 582
In the first phase of operation, the new unit will have 393 beds. At the end of the second stage, the total planned capacity will be 582 beds, distributed among 378 for clinical and surgical hospitalization, including 18 for isolation, 128 for ICU, and 76 for emergency.
The State Secretary of Health, Eleuses Paiva, stated that Ribeirão Preto is one of the major health hubs in São Paulo’s interior and has been expanding the offer and quality of care. He also classified the new emergency service under construction as one of the largest and most modern in the country.
According to the information presented during the agenda, the final structure will include beds for emergency care, ICU beds, high-complexity equipment for the vascular area, and conditions for treating polytraumatized patients, both adult and pediatric. The complex reinforces the role of Hospital das Clínicas de Ribeirão Preto as a regional reference in complex care.
Sustainability and energy efficiency are part of the project
The complex under construction was also designed with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. The project aims for LEED certification, granted by the U.S. Green Building Council to efficient, healthy, and environmentally responsible buildings.
The criteria considered include rational use of water and energy, materials used, and indoor environmental quality. Among the solutions planned for the enterprise is the implementation of a photovoltaic plant in the parking area, a measure aimed at generating clean energy and reducing operational costs.
The new emergency unit is part of a set of investments aimed at expanding HC’s care capacity and modernizing the regional health infrastructure. The work reinforces the hospital’s strategic function in high-complexity care and in the organization of the urgency and emergency network.
Caravana 3D brings investment agenda to Ribeirão Preto
The visit to the works occurred during the passage of the 3D Caravan through Ribeirão Preto, an agenda of the Government of São Paulo that continues until tomorrow in the municipality. The initiative travels through regions of the state focusing on the three pillars of management: development, dignity, and dialogue.
The 3D Caravan’s proposal is to strengthen articulation with municipalities, promote deliveries, and announce investments linked to local needs.
The delegation has already passed through the regions of Campinas, Vale do Paraíba, São José do Rio Preto, Araçatuba, Marília, Sorocaba, Presidente Prudente, and Itapeva.
At each stage, the agenda includes visits to municipalities and announcements of actions in the areas of health, education, housing, infrastructure, and security. In Ribeirão Preto, the new emergency unit of the HC appears as one of the main deliveries planned to expand regional care and qualify assistance to patients in serious condition.
