In Europe, the Scania trailer will have a box covered with solar panels, aiming to recharge the batteries of the mechanical horse
Scania AB is a Swedish company that manufactures trucks, buses, and diesel engines, and has operations in over 100 countries. The company will develop a trailer in Europe that will have the entire box covered with solar panels. The goal of the project will be to recharge the batteries of the mechanical horse. The autonomy, in Sweden, which is a cold country, can reach 10%, while in Spain, this figure can reach 20%.

The solar panel project is already seen in some trucks, boats, and motorhomes, but is almost always used to power auxiliary equipment, such as refrigerators, televisions, etc.
The truck will be 18 meters long and will also be used by the Swedish company Ernst Express, which has been cooperating with Scania for many years to develop technologies, such as overhead power lines for certain tests on roads. The roof and sides of the trailer will be covered with 140 square meters of solar panels, which can generate up to 14,000 kWh of electricity per year in Sweden, and double in sunnier locations.

Fortescue announces a radical shift by replacing diesel with a system featuring 1.2 GW of solar energy, 600 MW of wind energy, and up to 5 GWh in batteries, a giant project that could save $100 million per year and transform heavy mining into one of the largest 100% renewable operations in the world by 2028.
The project is funded by Vinnova, the Swedish government’s innovation agency, and involves, in addition to Scania and Ernst Express, Midsummer, which manufactures solar panels, Uppsala University, which conducts advanced research on more efficient solar cells, and Dalakaf Energy, a company operating in the energy sector.
The study will also analyze the possibility of using parked trucks as stationary generators to power the transport company’s buildings, for example, when the vehicle’s battery is fully charged. This can be done mainly on weekends when the truck is off the road and also during some type of maintenance.
