Incidents Occurred at the São Sebastião Terminal (SP) and at the Estreito Field in Rio Grande do Norte, and Both Died While Providing Services to Petrobras
The end of April was not good news for the working class. Work accidents killed two workers who were providing services to Petrobras at the São Sebastião terminal (SP) and at an oil field in Rio Grande do Norte.
The fatal accident at the São Sebastião terminal (SP) occurred while employee Marcelo Bezerra do Nascimento was participating in the maneuvers of the ship Milton Santos, from Transpetro.
The vessel was reportedly adrift off the coast of São Paulo due to a storm. The ship was “thrown” towards Ilha Bela due to winds exceeding 100 km/h and reportedly collided with a pier, according to the United Federation of Oil Workers (FUP); the ship was said to be out of control and loaded with oil during the maneuver.

The other accident that claimed the life of André de Seixas da Silva, an employee contracted by Transpet, occurred at production well 7-ET-0376-RN, in the Estreito field, in the municipality of Carnaubais (RN).
The worker was struck by a dump truck while cleaning at the base of the well. Both workers were taken alive to the hospital but did not survive their injuries.
FUP issued a statement saying that the accidents demonstrate the poor working conditions to which the workers of the Petrobras system are subjected and emphasized that the deaths are a consequence of the precarious conditions of the facilities, the reduction of operational costs, and the workforce.
Transpetro expressed condolences for the incident and stated that it is providing full assistance to the family of worker Marcelo Bezerra, while Petrobras chose not to comment on the matter.
