The Brazilian agribusiness has significant representation in the global scenario. The country is the third largest in food production in the world, and it could rank first by 2025. The expectation for 2021 is that the Gross Agricultural Product (VBP) will reach a record mark of over R$ 1 trillion.

Agribusiness is one of the sectors of the Brazilian economy that has grown and developed the most in recent years. From January to November 2020, there was an increase of 19.66%.

José Luiz Tejon, professor and writer, said that “Our goal is to double the size of agribusiness and bring it to a value of R$ 3.5 trillion in ten years. We can achieve this with the integration of farmers, Embrapa, agribusiness, and trade. Agribusiness is part of Brazil’s heritage.”

Exports and Employability:

A study released by the Center for Advanced Research in Applied Economics – (Cepea / Esalq / USP) shows the performance of agribusiness in creating new job opportunities, with a 1.3% increase in the third quarter of 2020 compared to the previous quarter. The sector’s share of hiring reaches 20%.

The survey indicates an increase of 217,000 people, bringing the total number of people employed in this sector to 16.94 million. By contrast, the number of employed people in Brazil is moving in the opposite direction, with a decrease of 1.06%, which means over 883,000 people.

In the last ten years, the agribusiness sector has become increasingly important and accounts for a large part of the economy. From 2011 to 2020, the value of exports from the sector was close to US$ 1 trillion, and the sector’s trade balance was US$ 800 billion. Exports affect not only the income and investment capacity of producers but also domestic prices, which in many cases begin to reflect external values.
