According to several experts, the reduction in demand for container ships at the Port of Santos is mainly due to the pandemic factor, as it is one of the main reasons for the reduction in industrial activities and household consumption.
The sectors that contributed directly and indirectly to the contraction in demand for container ships at the Port of Santos were the chemical and automotive sectors.
According to experts consulted by Folha, the contraction in container circulation is one of the economic impacts of the pandemic, which reduced the activity level of industries, family consumption, and consequently, imports via ports. The sectors that most contributed to this drop were automotive and chemical products.
Antaq (National Agency for Waterway Transport) sent data to the Folha de Vitória newspaper informing that the drop in demand for container ships began in March.
