There was a time in Brazil when bike rentals were very common in the country’s capitals, sponsored by banks and health plans. Evolving this initiative a little, the rental of electric motorcycles has arrived in São Paulo, which promises to be a new trend.
Rental of Electric Motorcycles Will Initially Cost R$ 4.90
In a similar way, through an app, the rental of electric motorcycles can be, besides a faster solution, also something cheaper and that generates less pollution for personal transport compared to the costs of owning your own motorcycle.
In the capital of SP, the service is provided by the company specialized in car and motorcycle rental, Awto, available in Brazil since October 2022. For the electric motorcycle rental service, the initial price is R$ 4.90. Until now, the rental service has around 200 electric motorcycles from the brand Voltz. The company has 150 units of the EV1 Sport model and another 50 of the EVS version.

The current coverage of Awto’s electric motorcycle rental is limited to the West Zone of São Paulo (SP), but the company plans to expand its operating area according to the demand for services.
To use the company’s sustainable service, interested individuals must download the Awto app, which is already available for Android and IOS. The customer must provide some personal information for registration and take a photo of their National Driver’s License (CNH) to prove their eligibility and rent the vehicle.
Rental of Electric Motorcycles Also Offers Helmet and Hygiene Products
The electric motorcycles are available at Awto’s authorized parking lots, and as soon as the registration is approved and the vehicle is reserved, the vehicle’s trunk is opened automatically.
The initial rental fee is R$ 4.90, as mentioned earlier, and in the case of electric motorcycle rentals, the final price includes R$ 1.20 per minute used by the consumer. The service does not charge for kilometers driven for the motorcycles, but for the time that the customer uses the vehicle.
The responsible company also offers plans for long trips, but so far does not have annual or monthly plans for the service. Along with each vehicle, Awto provides two helmets, hand sanitizer, and new hygiene caps for customers.
The company is also responsible for recharging the batteries. To return the vehicle, the electric motorcycle can be parked in the locations indicated by Awto in the app or in permitted public spaces, with an extra fee for the customer, as a team from the company will pick up the vehicle.
Itau Develops Electric Car Rental Service
In 2020, Itaú Unibanco announced the development of an electric car rental service. The company’s rental service model planned to charge a fixed initial fee and a value per minute of use of the models.
All vehicles will have internet connectivity and, as with the old bike rental service previously operated by Itaú, electric vehicles can be returned at stations different from where they were picked up, which are also used for recharging.
The pilot project for the company’s electric cars was called vec Itaú and was scheduled for February 2021; however, at that time, only bank employees from São Paulo had the right to rent the models at first.
