Amazon Sends Checks From the USA to Brazilians Under Agreement With the FTC After Accusations of Abusive Cancellation of Prime and Compensation That Can Reach US$ 51 Per Customer.
Brazilian consumers have started receiving checks sent directly from the United States by Amazon.
The action is a result of an agreement signed by the retail and streaming giant with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in September 2025, after the company was held accountable for abusive practices in the Amazon Prime service.
The payment amount can reach US$ 51 (about R$ 267) per person, and some customers received compensation by mail. The initiative has surprised many consumers, who suspected it might be a fraud.

Brazilian Journalist Reports Shock at Receiving Check From Amazon
One of the recipients, journalist Rafael Mondonça, shared his surprise:
“Well, my life has already provided many crazy, strange, beautiful, and unusual things, some truly surprising. But I confess that receiving a check from Amazon in the mail directly from the USA was unexpected.”
Rafael’s reaction shows how Amazon‘s measure caught many consumers off guard, highlighting the novelty of sending international checks to Brazil.

Criteria to Receive Compensation From Amazon
The compensation benefits customers who:
- Attempted to cancel Amazon Prime and could not;
- Accepted offers to remain with the service after attempting to cancel;
- Used three or fewer Prime benefits in the first year;
- Utilized up to ten benefits, depending on the availability of remaining funds.
In addition to checks sent by mail, consumers can redeem compensation via an online platform managed by PayPal.
How to Receive and Validate the Check?
Brazilian banks can cash or deposit checks from Amazon, but the process requires sending for validation in the United States, which may take up to a month.
For payments via PayPal, it is necessary to register the check details on the indicated platform.
Amazon has not yet disclosed the exact number of Brazilian consumers who are eligible.
The FTC accused Amazon of “knowingly deceiving” consumers, making it difficult to cancel Prime and inducing customers to stay with the service despite a lack of interest.
The US$ 2.5 billion agreement aims to address these abuses and clarify the sign-up and cancellation processes, promoting greater transparency.
In an official statement, Amazon stated:
“We always follow the law. The agreement allows us to move forward with a focus on our customers. We work hard to make the Prime sign-up and cancellation process clear and simple, and we will continue to provide value to our millions of members around the world.”
Tips for Customers Who Are Entitled to Compensation
If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, be on the lookout for the receipt of the check or notifications in the online platform.
Even if the amounts seem low, they represent reimbursement for abusive practices.
The recommendation is to carefully follow the instructions for deposit or redemption and consider the time required for international validation.
