Signed Agreement Unlocks Project Long Awaited for Decades and Bets on Regional Integration, Local Mobility, and Strengthening Tourism in Southern Santa Catarina, with Direct Impact on Residents, Visitors, and the Economy of Municipalities near the Serra Catarinense.

An old claim from Southern Santa Catarina advanced this week with the signing of the agreement that enables the paving of the so-called Mineiros Highway in Urussanga.

The project, estimated at around R$ 47 million, aims to improve a stretch that is currently unpaved and is seen by the state government and local leaders as a new corridor for movement between the mountains and the coast.

The connection links Urussanga to Lauro Müller, a municipality that provides access to the Serra Catarinense.

The act was presented as the resumption of a long-awaited project by residents of the communities served by the road.

The initiative is part of the Good Road Program of the Government of Santa Catarina.

Before the actual start of the works, there are still administrative steps to be completed, such as bidding processes and the hiring of technical supervision.

Paving of the Mineiros Highway Includes Almost 8 Km of Asphalt

Agreement Releases R$ 47 Million Project to Pave the Mineiros Highway, Creating a New Tourist Route Between Urussanga and Lauro Müller, in Santa Catarina.
Agreement Releases R$ 47 Million Project to Pave the Mineiros Highway, Creating a New Tourist Route Between Urussanga and Lauro Müller, in Santa Catarina.

The announced plan concentrates investment in approximately 7.9 kilometers between the neighborhoods of Rio Carvão and Santana, in Urussanga.

The official estimate points to a total cost of R$ 46,757,769.43, an amount rounded to R$ 47 million in public communications.

Currently, the road is entirely unpaved.

In rainy periods, the formation of mud hinders traffic and compromises the movement of residents and service vehicles.

On dry days, the constant dust affects homes and properties along the route.

With the paving, the public authorities expect to ensure more security, regular traffic flow, and better mobility conditions for those who use the road daily.

New Route Seeks to Connect Mountains and Coast in Southern Santa Catarina

In addition to the local impact, the work is presented as strategic for regional tourism.

Lauro Müller appears in the project as a connection point with the Serra Catarinense, a destination that sees a significant increase in visitors during winter.

In this context, the Mineiros Highway emerges as an alternative for movement between municipalities on the southern coast and mountainous areas.

Winter tourism in the Serra Catarinense has concentrated a large portion of the annual flow of visitors, attracted by low temperatures, typical cuisine, and natural landscapes.

Public managers believe that the new paved route can expand circulation options throughout the year.

The expectation is to reduce dependence on already overloaded routes and provide more predictability for those traveling in the region.

City Hall Links Work to Economic Development and Tourism

The mayor of Urussanga, Stela Talamini (MDB), directly related the paving to the development of the municipality.

According to her, the project represents economic and tourist advancement for the city and the surrounding area.

“This highway represents economic development for us. Being able to create this access corridor between Urussanga and Lauro Müller means primarily tourism development. This was our perspective.”

The state government also highlighted the relevance of the work for regional integration.

By including the investment in the Good Road Program, the State reinforced the structural nature of the paving for the road network in Santa Catarina.

Local Expectations Involve Tourism, Services, and Mobility

Residents along the Mineiros Highway are following the project with anticipation.

The estimate is that about two thousand people live near the road.

With the paving, the expectation is for immediate improvement in daily commuting.

At the same time, local leaders evaluate that increased circulation can stimulate sectors such as trade, food, and services.

However, these effects depend on complementary factors, such as organization of the tourism sector, adequate signage, and the provision of attractions.

These points are not part of the announced paving agreement’s scope.

Administrative Steps Precede the Start of the Works

With the signing of the agreement, the project now enters the technical phase.

Formal procedures will be necessary, such as opening bids, defining the executing company, and hiring supervision.

The city hall reported that these steps follow legal requirements and public controls.

There are also discussions about the possibility of the road being incorporated into the state network in the future.

There are also talks about potentially extending the paving towards Lauro Müller.

However, these points do not have a set timeline or official confirmation at this stage.

If the paving of the Mineiros Highway is completed as per the current project, the paved connection could alter the regional routine and redesign movements between the mountains and the coast, but how will the municipalities structure this new road to transform it into a consolidated tourist route?

Nesse trecho deveriam assentar trilhos, ida e volta, melhor para o turismo, renda para o município, maior visibilidade com certeza, passeios, agora querem para carros, pedagio, engarrafamentos gigantes, assaltos, tem lugar para para o trem aí.
