With Investment of R$ 22 Million, Project Promises to Improve Mobility Between Inhaúma and Papagaios. The New Bridge Will Be 160 Meters Long and Is Part of a Set of Seven Road Works in the Paraopeba Basin.
The Government of Minas has taken a decisive step towards the reconstruction of infrastructure in the central region of the state with the publication of the bidding notice for the construction of a bridge over the Paraopeba River, as well as a new bypass on the municipal highway between the municipalities of Inhaúma and Papagaios.
The initiative, announced in the Official Gazette on Thursday (6/19), represents a concrete response to the historical demands of the population affected by the Brumadinho tragedy and is part of the Socioeconomic Repair Program of the Paraopeba Basin.
Bridge Will Have Pedestrian Crossing and Facilitate Movements
The new structure will measure 160.9 meters in length and 10.5 meters in width, along with a 1.5-meter unilateral pedestrian walkway, reinforcing the commitment to safe and accessible mobility. Together with the highway bypass, the total length of the project will be 1,355 meters.

While traditional construction consumes enormous amounts of energy and cement, a new material created by scientists uses an enzyme to transform CO₂ into solid minerals, hardens in hours, and could revolutionize civil construction.
The expectation is that the project will be executed within 12 months after the order to start the works. The bidding will be conducted via the official state procurement portal (www.portaldecompras.mg.gov.br), with the opening of the public session scheduled for July 30, at 9:30 AM.
“This is a project that has been requested for many years by the local population, and as soon as we have the winning company to build the bridge, the Government of Minas, through the Department, will give the order to start the works. The funding is already guaranteed, and soon the daily commutes of the people in the region will be safer and faster,” stated Rodrigo Tavares, general director of the Department of Highways of Minas Gerais (DER-MG).
Bridge Advances Thanks to the Repair Agreement
The bridge over the Paraopeba River is the last of the six regional roadworks approved through the 2021 Popular Consultation to advance to the bidding phase.
These actions are being made possible with resources from the Judicial Repair Agreement of Brumadinho, signed between the Government of Minas, the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPMG and MPF), the Public Defender’s Office (DPMG), the mining company Vale S.A., and the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais (TJMG).
“The publication of the bidding notice is an important step. This delivery is only possible thanks to the efforts of the affected municipalities and the commitment of the Government of Minas and Justice Institutions,” emphasized Silvia Listgarten, Secretary of State for Planning and Management.
Seven Road Works and an Investment of R$ 800 Million
The construction of the bridge is part of a package of seven planned road works to directly benefit the municipalities impacted by the environmental disaster that occurred in January 2019.
The total investment forecasted is R$ 800 million, all coming from the Repair Agreement.

Socioeconomic Repair Goes Beyond Infrastructure
The actions provided for in the Repair Agreement cover 26 affected municipalities, focusing on areas such as health, education, agriculture, economy, leisure, and infrastructure.
The intention is to transform the tragedy that took the lives of 272 people into a legacy of reconstruction and regional development.
These projects are part of Annexes I.3 and I.4 of the Judicial Agreement, aimed at strengthening public service, with investments in both emergency and structural actions, seeking to ensure better living conditions for affected populations.
The construction of the bridge over the Paraopeba River, led by the Government of Minas, reinforces the state’s commitment to promoting reconstruction and mobility in the affected cities.
With funding secured and the bidding notice published, the expectation is that the project will begin in 2025, bringing more safety and dignity to the residents who rely on the crossing daily.
This initiative demonstrates how well-directed investments can transform realities and contribute to overcoming one of the largest socio-environmental disasters in the country’s history.
