ANEEL Plans to Hold a Renewable Energy Auction in June with Estimated Private Investments Reaching R$ 11.1 Billion in Solar Energy
The National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) plans to hold a renewable energy auction that includes over 3,500 km of transmission lines only in Minas Gerais in June. The initiative will take place to connect large solar power plants to the National Interconnected System (SIN). Initially, the forecasted investment amount was R$ 7.5 billion; however, due to projections for the expansion of solar energy generation in the region, private investments may reach R$ 11.1 billion just in the Minas lot.

Cemig is also planning to expand the number of substations in the region as part of the investment plan announced last year to connect micro and mini solar power plants to its grid, with an investment value of R$ 22.5 billion.
Additionally, the state government and municipalities are also working on new projects to attract more construction in the renewable energy market, especially for solar sources. In November of last year, Minas Gerais reached a historic capacity of 2GW in operational solar energy in generating regions, combining distributed and centralized generation.

Works in MG May Cause ANEEL Auction to Exceed R$ 13 Billion
In the ANEEL auction lots, in addition to 4,810 km of transmission lines, more than 6 MVA of capacity will be granted in various states. The initial investment estimate was R$ 8 billion; however, with the arrival of new works in MG, the value may exceed R$ 13 billion.
The highest number of works in the ANEEL renewable energy auction will support the expansion of transmission capacity in the northern region of the state, where the initial forecast is for 3,543 km of transmission lines and 3,750 MVA in transformation capacity at substations.
According to Pedro Sena, Energy Director of the State Department of Economic Development (Sede), the Government of Minas, alongside the Union, has coordinated efforts to address the need for granting this transmission infrastructure. The department is optimistic about the expansion of solar energy generation in the state.
State of MG Could Gain 200 New Substations
Regarding mini and micro solar power plants connected to CEMIG, the state-owned company reported that it is studying improvements within its investment plan until 2027, amounting to R$ 22.5 billion, through a program launched in the second half of last year, Mais Energia, which plans investments of R$ 5 billion, focusing on 200 new substations throughout the state. Of this total, about 15 will be located in northern Minas and will allow for quicker connections of mini and micro solar power plants to the grid.
