Apple agrees to pay $250 million to settle class action in the United States involving iPhone 15 and 16 buyers, after accusations about artificial intelligence features announced by the company
Apple has agreed to pay $250 million, about R$ 1.2 billion, in iPhone reimbursement to settle a class action in the United States over artificial intelligence features announced for buyers of models 15 and 16.
Who can receive the reimbursement
The agreement was presented last week in a federal court in California. The company did not admit wrongdoing but agreed to the payment to resolve the lawsuit filed against it.
The iPhone reimbursement applies to people who purchased an iPhone 15 or 16 between June 2024 and March 2025. Each consumer included in the action should receive between $25 and $95.

In reais, the individual amounts correspond to about R$ 120 to R$ 460. The total amount defined in the agreement reaches $250 million, equivalent to approximately R$ 1.2 billion.
Accusation involves artificial intelligence
The lawsuit accused Apple of misleading consumers about new features and capabilities of artificial intelligence. The core of the case involves Apple Intelligence, an AI system presented by the brand.
The lawsuit also mentioned promised improvements for Siri, the company’s voice assistant. The accusation claimed that the advertised features were not available as presented.
Lawyers for the action argued that Apple promoted AI capabilities that did not exist at the time, do not exist now, and will not exist for two or more years, if ever.
Campaign targeted competition with Big Techs
The plaintiffs claimed that the company focused its campaign on AI features to try to remain competitive. The dispute involved other Big Techs mentioned in the case.
Among the companies mentioned were Anthropic and OpenAI. The accusation pointed out that Apple presented the innovations as revolutionary, despite the alleged limitations.
The iPhone reimbursement emerges as a way to end the class action without formal acknowledgment of guilt. The company maintained the position that the agreement does not represent an admission of wrongdoing.
Apple says it resolved the case
An Apple spokesperson stated that the company resolved the issue to maintain focus on delivering innovative products and services to users.
With the payment, the class action involving the iPhone reimbursement now has a financial solution for buyers included in the defined period. The case was linked to the AI promises made by the brand.
