Sustainability and the Industrial Sector Go Hand in Hand? Companies Like GEMÜ Implement Improvements in Environmental, Labor, Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Purchasing.

Together for Sustainability (TFS), a joint initiative of chemical companies, has been promoting an assessment program for sustainability practices within global supply chains since 2011. The idea is to create standardization and synergy to optimize resources for these companies, particularly in the industrial sector, through unified assessment and auditing.

By receiving the bronze medal from Ecovadis – an organization that evaluates these sustainable practices among suppliers of the TFS group – GEMÜ Valves and Measurement and Control Systems ranks among the best-rated companies in the industrial segment. The result indicates consistent practices in the four pillars of corporate social responsibility: environment, labor practices and human rights, ethics, and sustainable purchasing.

“Previously, each company in the chemical industry conducted its own assessment and audit. Now, there is standardization and encouragement to improve more and more,” explains GEMÜ’s Quality Supervisor, Fabio Kuriyama. Different areas of the company were involved to ensure improvements in practices related to the four pillars.

The benefits of sustainability are both internal and external, including reduced water consumption, better waste management, greater environmental and corporate compliance, updates to labor and human rights practices, and studies on the use of alternative energies, among other improvements.
