In Addition to the Solar Plant That Will Be Inaugurated in Minas Gerais, the Largest Civil Construction Company in Latin America Has Two More Planned for 2021, One in Bahia and Another in Paraná
Scheduled for next week, MRV, the largest civil construction company in Latin America, will inaugurate its first solar energy generation plant. The new venture is located in Uberaba, in the state of Minas Gerais. Looking for a job? Multinational Actemium in Macaé Starts Offshore Recruitment and Selection for Entry-Level Job Openings

The solar plant has the capacity to generate 1 million kilowatts/hour, enough to supply a city of 25 thousand inhabitants for a month. Although the construction company initially wanted to use this energy to power its own operations, MRV saw new possibilities and plans to enter the renewables business.
With an investment of 3.4 million reais, the construction company aims to save approximately 800 thousand reais annually with the new solar plant in Minas Gerais

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

Africa has about 500,000 cell towers and most still burn diesel to operate, while companies rush to cover antennas with solar energy and avoid signal blackouts.

Farmers swapped diesel for solar panels in Pakistan, powered irrigation pumps almost cost-free, expanded rice fields, and now groundwater has become a red alert in the countryside.
The other two solar plants, one in Lapão, Bahia, and the other in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná, are scheduled to be inaugurated by MRV next year.
With this, the largest civil construction company in Latin America will have enough generation capacity to supply a city of 30 thousand inhabitants for a year. “We even considered selling the excess to third parties,” says Raphael Lafetá, CEO of Sustainability at MRV.
The idea of building its own plant arose due to the lack of large-scale projects. “When we made the decision, there were no solar farms large enough,” says Lafetá. With the availability of clean and cheap energy, MRV intends to rethink the use of electricity on construction sites, replacing diesel with batteries.
According to the executive, the choice of diesel is due to mobility and the cost of energy. The second obstacle is overcome with solar generation, while the first depends on the development of new equipment. “We will challenge our suppliers to develop battery solutions,” says the executive. “We can think, for example, of electric forklifts and concrete mixers.”
