The worldwide offshore rig count for September 2018 has increased year-on-year but is down slightly from August 2018.

According to a rig count report issued on Friday by Baker Hughes, a GE company, there were 226 active offshore rigs drilling worldwide in September 2018. This is a decrease compared to the 232 active offshore rigs in August 2018, but an increase compared to the 209 offshore drilling rigs worldwide in September 2017.

Asia had the most active offshore drilling rigs in September (82), followed by the Middle East (48), Europe (30), Latin America (25), US (20), Africa (19) and Canada (2 ). The worldwide rig count, counting both offshore and onshore platforms for September 2018, was 2.258, 20 down from the 2.278 counted in August 2018 and 177 from the 2.081 counted in September 2017.
