The Worldwide Count of Offshore Rigs for September 2018 Increased Year Over Year, But Slightly Decreased Compared to August 2018.
As offshore wind power generation spreads to more countries, standardization can help overcome market barriers and stimulate greater deployment. Initial experience in the sector predominantly came from more mature energy markets such as Denmark, Germany, and the United Kingdom. This report from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) examines these three established markets along with a major emerging market, China. The analysis highlights the development of standards and best practices for new markets to adopt. It also emphasized the highs and lows of offshore rig activities worldwide in 2018.
According to a rig count report released on Friday by Baker Hughes, a GE company, there were 226 active offshore rigs drilling worldwide in September 2018. This is a decrease compared to the 232 active offshore rigs in August 2018, but an increase compared to the 209 offshore drilling rigs worldwide in September 2017.
