China's C919 aircraft arrives in Brazil: Total Linhas Aéreas challenges Airbus and Boeing with this revolution in the skies
The Chinese C919 aircraft is expected to arrive in Brazil in the first half of 2025, according to information provided by Total Linhas Aéreas. Fast delivery is a competitive advantage for Comac compared to its competitors Boeing and Airbus.

With capacity for up to 174 passengers and promised delivery in 2025, China's C919 aircraft promises to revolutionize the Brazilian aviation market, challenging the Airbus and Boeing duopoly and bringing innovation quickly and efficiently.

Total Linhas Aéreas has just signed a contract with Comac to operate the Chinese C919 aircraft, the newest competitor to giants Airbus and Boeing. Is Brazil ready for this innovation?

The C919, produced by Comac (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China), is a single-aisle, narrow-body aircraft designed to compete with models such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737. It has capacity for up to 174 passengers and has already accumulated more than 10 flight hours since its entry into operation in 2023.

China's aircraft specifications, operational capacity and competition with Airbus and Boeing

China's C919 aircraft is manufactured by Comac, but has several components from other countries. Its engines, for example, are developed by CFM International, a joint venture between the French company Safran and the American company GE Aviation, and it also uses systems and technologies from suppliers in Europe and the United States.

Its engines, for example, are developed by CFM International, a joint venture between the French company Safran and the American company GE Aviation, and it also uses systems and technologies from suppliers in Europe and the United States.

With a range of up to 5.555 km and a cruising speed of 834 km/h, the C919 combines efficiency with cutting-edge technology. Its design prioritizes economy fuel economy and comfort, features that make it a promising choice for airlines looking to modernize their fleets.

Although the market is dominated by Western manufacturers, the C919 emerges as a viable alternative, especially at a time of production bottlenecks at Airbus and Boeing. The Chinese model promises to shorten delivery times, something essential for companies with aggressive expansion plans.

Why choose C919?

According to Paulo Almada, Total's controlling partner, the decision was motivated by the immediate availability of the Chinese aircraft. While Airbus and Boeing offer delivery deadlines that can exceed five years, Comac has promised to supply a C919 unit as early as 2025.

In addition to charter flights, Total plans to resume regular operations, taking advantage of the low competition and high demand for aircraft. The acquisition of the C919 is seen as a strategic step to consolidate the company's presence in the Brazilian market.

Anac's role in the process

Before the C919 takes off in Brazil, it will need to be approved by ANAC. This is a rigorous process, but Total believes that the process will be expedited due to the mutual benefits between Brazil and China in the aeronautical sector.

The partnership with Comac also reflects the strengthening of trade ties between the two countries. According to Almada, the Chinese manufacturer is willing to “jump the queue” to serve the Brazilian market, which demonstrates China’s interest in expanding its global influence in the sector.

ACMI Modality: Innovative bet

Total plans to use the C919 on an ACMI basis, in which the aircraft is leased to other companies along with crew, maintenance and insurance. This practice is common in Europe and helps airlines meet peak demand without purchasing new planes.

With the flexibility of the ACMI model, Total can exploit the potential of the C919 without relying exclusively on scheduled routes. The idea is to offer the aircraft as a temporary solution for large companies, while Total consolidates itself as a reference in this business model.

The impact of the C919 on the Brazilian aviation sector

The arrival of the C919 could usher in a new era for Brazilian aviation. With competitive prices and fast delivery, it has the potential to break the dominance of Airbus and Boeing, diversifying the aircraft options available on the market.

Smaller companies like Total have a unique opportunity to modernize their fleets without facing the logistical and financial challenges posed by traditional manufacturers. This could create a cascade effect, stimulating competition and improving services for passengers.

China's C919 plane represents more than an alternative technology for the Brazilian aviation market. It symbolizes a paradigm shift, challenging industry giants and opening up new possibilities for local companies. Are we on the verge of a revolution in the skies of Brazil? Only time will tell, but with Total at the forefront, the winds of change have already begun to blow.

The end of European and American dominance, long live China, freedom for underdeveloped countries, Brazil learn from the Chinese who do not want to be a colony of Europe or a slave to the United States.

China is the vanguard of knowledge. The factory of the world. The first country in terms of purchasing power parity per inhabitant. Don't you know that yet?

I even think it's a good reason for the other two to be worried, but they forgot to say that this plane is a competitor of Embraer...

I don't see any reason, because the reliability of models already operated by competitors has credibility in the market, something that the Chinese still need to acquire.

And that's why ANAC exists, it's the one that will give this certification. Or do you think that the planes would arrive here and be put to fly without any certainty of their reliability?

Before being exported and placed on flights abroad, it has to obtain an authorization license. No big deal! In the report, it has already reported 15 thousand flight hours, which is one of the safety tests.
