The process of integrating electric bicycles by the Postal Service began even before the pandemic. Partnerships with Aliança Bike and the Sustainable Mobility Laboratory of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (LABMOB/UFRJ) allowed for testing to be conducted in Praia Grande, São Paulo.
Daniel Guth, executive director of Aliança Bike, emphasizes that the tests were fundamental in finding the most appropriate e-bike model for the Postal Service. The goal was to reduce the burden on delivery professionals, making their routines lighter and more efficient.
The results were impressive, as long tail e-bikes proved to be more effective than motorcycles in over 80% of the tested delivery areas.
Postal Service E-Bikes Have A Range Of 30 To 50 Kilometers
These electric bicycles adopted by the Brazilian state-owned company have a range of 30 to 50 kilometers, and can be fully recharged in approximately seven hours. Their average speed is 20 km/h, allowing deliveries to be made more quickly.
In addition, they reduce the need to pedal on long routes, which can currently average 16 km per day.
Aside from their remarkable performance, the Postal Service’s electric bicycles represent a significant step toward sustainability. They contribute to reducing environmental impact, as they do not emit polluting gases. Another advantage is the ease of parking, making them even more practical for urban use.
The Postal Service’s electric bicycles are synonymous with efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. The implementation of this project will not only improve delivery efficiency but also boost sustainable mobility in the country.
