BMW has introduced its new electric motorcycle that does not require a driver’s license and promises a top speed of up to 90 km/h with a focus on low price. The electric motorcycle is named BMW CE 02, which although it does not fall into the scooter category, also does not belong to the group of motorcycles. The new concept presented by the German brand should not require a driver’s license to be ridden, aimed at teenagers and young people aged 16.

Electric Motorcycle Focused On Young Audience Can Reach Up To 90 km/h
With an 11 kW electric motor, the BMW model can achieve a maximum speed of up to 90 km/h. Its battery, although not detailed, should offer a range of 90 km in urban use.
According to the German brand, the motor’s power and its 85 Nm torque allow for quick acceleration at traffic lights, and its range and speed enable good travel even in heavy traffic.
A color screen on the handlebar provides basic display functionality. Additionally, the panel is connected through visible cable harnesses to highlight the technology and modernity of the BMW model. Combined with the swingarm and disc wheels, elements like the transmission belt, handlebar, and fork emphasize the urban and modern character of the concept motorcycle in detail.
Recent Updates On BMW’s Electric Motorcycle
The vice president of ABVE emphasizes that the vehicle presented both in Brazil and Europe will never be ridden by people without a driver’s license. Once approved, this vehicle should be classified as an L3 (motorcycle) and not an L1B (Moped) given its 11 kW motor and maximum speed of 90 km/h.
It is worth mentioning that both in Europe and the United States, all vehicles require the person to be licensed, with the difference being the type of license and the age of the driver. Thus, a young person aged 14 or 16 can ride a moped (a vehicle classified as L1B, characterized by a motor limited to 50cc or 4000W (4kW) and a speed limit of 45/50 km/h) if they hold a permit to ride the vehicle – equivalent to our ACC.
This same moped can be ridden by holders of non-specific licenses (especially for motorcycles) if they hold licenses type B or C, as well as others in the L3 category as long as they are under 125cc.
BMW’s Electric Motorcycle Concept May Come To Life
The motorcycle from the German brand will be one of the attractions of BMW at IAA Mobility 2021, the former auto show that is now an event focused on urban mobility. Previously, the event was held in Frankfurt, but this year it will take place in Munich.
Although it is still a concept, the electric motorcycle CE 02 already has shapes that are very close to a ready-to-final-production model. The same happened with the CE 04, a larger scooter that emerged as the Definition CE 04 concept in 2020 and is already being sold this year. All signs point to the same happening with the CE 02, which has lower range, less powerful motor, and does not require a driver’s license.
