The master’s and doctorate scholarships are valid during the duration of the course, with a value of 850 euros per month and an extra fixed amount of 20 euros. Additional benefits of up to 86 euros are also available for health and nursing insurance.
The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation awards scholarships in all disciplines for doctoral candidates, except for medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine. Funding lasts for two years, but there is the possibility of extension, with a monthly scholarship of 1300 euros.

What Are the Selection Criteria and How to Apply?
Candidates for the master’s or doctorate scholarship must have above-average academic performance, political and social engagement in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, an understanding of the German language (level B2 or higher), and personal/family background.
In order to compete for one of the scholarships from the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, candidates need to submit the following documents, all in PDF format:
- Submit a certificate of enrollment/admission at a recognized German higher education institution, indicating the completed university semesters and the field of study. Without this information, the certificate will not be considered.
- Have letters of recommendation from university professors regarding their ability to perform and study. Must be in German or English and has no specific format.
- Professional Curriculum: curriculum vitae in tabular form (in German or English with a complete educational background).
- Copy of the highest educational qualification, such as a bachelor’s certificate or intermediate diploma, indicating the final grade. If not available in German or English, the candidate must provide a non-certified translation.
- Certificate proving German language skills and understanding at least at level B2, even if studies are completed in English.
- Information about the course at the university, such as Transcript of Records; grades; performance overviews; intermediate certificates.
Additionally, the master’s or doctorate scholarship candidate must provide evidence of social commitment, demonstrating alignment with the foundation’s values. For example, means that prove their involvement with political groups, parties, unions, clubs, university committees, and NGOs.
The scholarship candidate must have a copy of their passport and must apply for a student visa to Germany or a residence permit in the country. At the time of applying for the scholarship, if it is not possible to present the documents, the deadline for the student to submit the visa/permit is April 1, 2023.

The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation was founded in 1990 and represents a non-profit institution linked to the Left party (Die Linke). It is headquartered in Berlin, Germany, providing support for research, studies, and publications on various themes such as gender, agrarian issues, human rights, transparency, and democracy.
