The Bolsa Família Is One of the Main Social Assistance Benefits of the Government of Current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Currently, There Are More Than 21 Million Beneficiaries, but This Number May Decrease.

This occurs because a fine-tooth comb by the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance (MDS) promises to review the Cadastro Único (CadÚnico), which may impact more than seven million beneficiaries who may have their Bolsa Família canceled.

According to the ministry, the risk of cancellation occurs mainly due to the lack of updates in registrations. In this sense, it highlights the importance of meeting the requirements of the Bolsa Família.

Blockage Alert

In recent days, people receiving the Bolsa Família have been receiving alerts through the benefit’s app, which highlights the urgency of clarifying registration information. Today, those who receive these alerts have up to 60 days to update their information at the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) and thus continue receiving the benefit.

The Most Affected

According to the information, among those most affected by possible cancellations are those who have not updated their registration and also those involved in fraudulent situations, as well as those who did not comply with the stay rules.

If Returned, the Benefit Will Be Paid Retroactively

If a person has their benefit canceled but then proves that they are entitled to the Bolsa Família, the money will be deposited retroactively. That is, the government will deposit the amounts for the following months and also for the past months.

Analysis Process After Bolsa Família Canceled

As soon as the Bolsa Família is suspended, the possibility of a new evaluation of the beneficiary’s situation is opened. During this period, beneficiaries will have 30 days to present the necessary documents and regularize their situation with the CRAS. However, after these documents are submitted, the government will have another 60 days to analyze and evaluate whether payments will be resumed or not.

Measures to Prevent Fraud

Recently, the federal government approved a handbook aimed at preventing fraud in the Bolsa Família. This handbook includes measures such as improving the controls on data collection through self-declaration, creating a system for periodic evaluation of data, and expanding monitoring and guidance to municipalities.

Bolsa Família Rules

Today, there are rules that beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família must comply with so that they do not risk losing the benefit. Among these rules are, for example, the requirement to attend prenatal care in case of pregnancy and to follow the national vaccination calendar. In addition, the beneficiary must:

  • Monitor the nutritional status of children under seven years old;
  • Ensure that children meet a minimum school attendance of 60% for those aged four or five and 75% for beneficiaries aged six to 18 who have not completed basic education;
  • Keep the unique registration updated (at least every 24 months).

Affected “Unipersonal” Families

As published by Click Petróleo e Gás last week, the government revealed that 1.73 million “unipersonal” families were excluded from the Bolsa Família. “Unipersonal” families are defined as those composed of only one member, registered in the Cadastro Único for Federal Government Social Programs.

Currently, there are no restrictions on them. However, it is important to emphasize that, under the rules of the Bolsa Família, when classified as unipersonal, those benefiting from the assistance can no longer share a house with other relatives.
