Fire Department Opens Selection Process for Temporary Positions: Over 400 Vacancies for Those with Elementary Education and Up to 55 Years Old
The Fire Department of the State of Rio Grande do Sul closes today (10/16) the registrations for the Simplified Selection Process aimed at hiring Civil Lifeguards Temporaries (GVCT). This process is intended to enhance safety at beaches and resorts during the summer season 2024-2025. The announcements cover the regions of North Half and South Half of the state, totaling 440 vacancies.
The selection process of the Fire Department aims to hire professionals to work in ocean waters and inland waters (rivers, lakes, reservoirs), ensuring the safety of swimmers.
Training Course and Remuneration
The training course of the Fire Department will be in-person and will take place in the cities of Pelotas and Rio Grande, in the South Half, and in cities to be defined in the North Half.

Training for New Lifeguards: Workload of 200 hours/class (140 hours of course + 60 hours of supervised internship).
Recertification for Experienced Lifeguards: Workload of 50 hours/class (40 hours of course + 10 hours of supervised internship).
The approved candidates will receive a remuneration of R$ 2,120.00 monthly during the course, in addition to 100% risk of life extra, meal vouchers, and transportation assistance.
The Fire Department’s selection process offers 440 vacancies divided between the regions of North Half and South Half:
South Half (GVCT 01/2024-2025 Announcement):
- Total vacancies: 100
- Ocean Waters: 70 vacancies
- Inland Waters: 30 vacancies
- Work locations: Santa Vitória do Palmar (Barra do Chuí), Rio Grande (Cassino), Pelotas (Laranjal), São Lourenço do Sul, among others.
North Half (GVCT 01/2024-2025 Announcement):
- Total vacancies: 340
- Ocean Waters: 280 vacancies
- Inland Waters: 60 vacancies
- Work locations: Torres, Capão da Canoa, Tramandaí, Caxias do Sul, São Francisco de Paula, Xangri-lá, among others.
Both announcements from the Fire Department have reserved vacancies, being 16% for black candidates (black and brown), 1% for transgender people (trans women, trans men, and transgender people) and 1% for indigenous people.
Selection Process
The selection process of the Fire Department consists of four phases: Health and Mental Examination (eliminatory), Physical Aptitude Examination, which includes swimming and running tests (classificatory and eliminatory), Background Check (eliminatory) and Technical Training for new ones or Technical Recertification for old ones (classificatory and eliminatory). Candidates competing for reserved vacancies must present self-declarations and prove the inclusion condition in the quotas, as provided in the announcements.
Positions and Requirements
The offered positions are for Civil Temporary Lifeguards of the Fire Department, with two modalities of action:
- Ocean Waters
- Inland Waters (rivers, lakes, and reservoirs)
To participate in the selection process of the Fire Department, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Be a natural or naturalized Brazilian.
- Be between 18 and 55 years old.
- Completed elementary education.
- Be in compliance with military and electoral obligations.
- Present a negative criminal record certificate.
- Be approved in the health and physical aptitude examinations provided in the announcement.

- Registrations: from September 17 to October 16, 2024.
