Oil And Gas Production In Brazil Reaches 5.160 Million Barrels Per Day In July, With Strong Pre-Salt Participation And Petrobras Leadership
Brazil achieved an unprecedented milestone in its energy history in July. The daily production of oil and natural gas surpassed the 5 million barrel mark for the first time. According to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), the recorded volume reached 5.160 million barrels per day.
This historic performance reflects both the expansion of oil production and the growth of natural gas.
According to the ANP’s monthly report, oil alone reached 3.959 million barrels per day. This result represents a 5.4% increase compared to June and a 22.5% increase compared to July 2024.

The rise in oil prices could ensure an extra revenue of R$ 100 billion for the Federal Government, indicates a recent economic study.

Naturgy begins an investment of R$ 1.6 million to expand the gas network in Niterói and benefit thousands of new residences and businesses.
-
A major turn in the Justice system suspends tax increases and directly impacts oil and gas companies in Brazil by affecting costs, contracts, and financial planning, leaving uncertain what could happen to the sector if these costs had increased.

Brava Energia begins drilling in Papa-Terra and Atlanta and could change the game by reducing costs in oil while increasing production and strengthening competitiveness in the offshore market.
Growth Of Natural Gas
The production of natural gas also registered significant advancement. In July, the volume was 190.89 million cubic meters per day.
This represents a growth of 5.1% compared to the previous month and an increase of 26.1% compared to July 2024. Therefore, both oil and natural gas confirm a solid expansion trajectory.
Furthermore, the ANP highlighted that most of the natural gas is extracted from the sea. Of the total volume, 86.1% comes from offshore fields. In the case of oil, 97.7% of production comes from the seas.
Strength Of The Pre-Salt
The pre-salt has established itself as the main driver of national production. In July, it accounted for 79.1% of the total, equivalent to 4.077 million barrels per day. This performance was 5.6% higher than the previous month and 24.2% greater than July of last year.
Oil and gas were extracted from 169 wells in this region. The Tupi field, located in the Santos Basin, was the most productive, with nearly 800 thousand barrels of oil daily.
Moreover, the FPSO Guanabara platform, in the Mero field, also in the Santos Basin, was the largest individual contributor, with 184.3 thousand barrels per day.
Source Of Production
The variations in production volume, according to the ANP, occur due to factors such as platform maintenance, the entry of new wells in operation, and the start of unit installations. This explains why the numbers fluctuate but maintain a growth trend.
Another noteworthy point is the geographical concentration of production. Rio de Janeiro leads by far, accounting for 88% of the oil and 77% of the natural gas extracted in the country.
Role Of Petrobras And Global Position
Petrobras, either individually or in consortia, accounts for 89.78% of the total production of oil and gas. This dominance reinforces the strategic importance of the state-owned company for the sector.
According to the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP), Brazil currently ranks eighth in the world producer ranking.
The top five – United States, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Iran – together account for half of global production.
Utilization Of Gas
Regarding gas utilization, the results are also positive. The rate reached 97.1%, meaning that less than 3% of the total extracted is burned.
The largest share, 54%, is reinjected into the wells. Another 33% is directed to the market, and 10% is used as energy by the platforms themselves.
This scenario demonstrates advances in efficiency and resource utilization. Therefore, Brazil combines record production expansion with increasingly higher utilization rates.
