Braskem and Veolia closed an investment agreement for the construction of a renewable energy plant in Alagoas. Companies will create hundreds of new direct and indirect jobs.
A Veolia and Braskem officially launched this Wednesday (22), the Foundation Stone of the Clean and Efficient Energy Project, which will be built in the industrial center in Marechal Deodoro, in Alagoas. In the last year, the companies closed an agreement for the production of renewable energy with the use of steam from eucalyptus biomass and other types, such as industrial waste, bamboo and other options to be considered. The Braskem and Veolia project will receive investments of R$400 million and will last for 20 years.
Investments in renewable energy promise to generate hundreds of new jobs in Alagoas
It is important to note that the project aims to generate 900 tons of steam per year, meaning a reduction of 150 tons of Greenhouse Gases per year, which is equivalent to 30% of emissions in the purchase of electricity by Braskem in Alagoas in 2020.
During the construction phase alone, the expectation is that the project will create more than 400 direct jobs and for the operation phase around 100 jobs will be generated.
the plant of renewable energy in Alagoas is expected to begin operations between the end of next year and the beginning of 2024, generating a great positive socio-environmental impact for the region and the country, and is aligned with the global sustainable development strategies of Veolia and Braskem.
Focused on sustainability and productivity concepts, the solution aims to meet the precise steam demand for continuous, high-performance operation at Braskem's PVC plant, located in Marechal Deodoro. To achieve this goal, Veolia has developed the engineering project and begins construction of the renewable energy plant, in addition to being responsible for maintenance and operation during the 20-year contract.
Project in Alagoas aligns with the unsustainable purpose of companies
At the companies' plant, the preparation, processing and mechanized storage of biomass will be carried out for its conversion into sustainable steam. With state-of-the-art technology, entirely Brazilian, four industrial boilers will be installed that will be in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week, thus guaranteeing an uninterrupted supply of precise steam for Braskem's production of renewable energy.
For the CEO of Veolia Brasil, Pedro Prádanos, these investments are linked to the company's purpose, which is ecological transformation, putting sustainability at the center of processes and decisions, generating production efficiency.
New investments consolidate Veolia and Braskem's commitment to the environment
According to the Veolia executive, the scenario of climate change and global warming accelerates the urgency of initiatives aimed at decarbonization and sustainability, where industries have an important objective in diversifying their energy matrices and also in efficient energy consumption.
Prádanos says that the company is happy with this investment partnership with Braskem, considering that it indicates a strong commitment and action in this regard.
Braskem's Industrial Director in Alagoas, Hélcio Colodete, highlighted that the partnership with Veolia for the project in Alagoas reinforces the fundamental commitment to generating wealth, respecting the environment and surrounding communities, adopting the best practices industry, and social transformation in the state. Additionally, it places Alagoas in a better and pioneering position in the development of clean energy.
