Climate change should be combated by solar and wind energy — but extreme heat reduces the efficiency of panels, violent winds shut down the turbines, and extreme rainfall floods entire power plants.
The purpose of this new center is to expand Braskem’s capacity in the areas of biotechnology, catalysis, and process engineering. The focus of the research will be on early-stage activities related to the conversion of biomass-based feedstocks, such as sugars, ethanol, vegetable oils, cellulose, and lignin into chemical products and materials with a low carbon footprint. This focus contributes to the achievement of the company’s goals in combating climate change.
‘h2>Excitement About the Inauguration
‘We are very excited about the opening of our innovation center in renewables and the expansion of our global presence in research and development. We hope to attract new talent to contribute to our ambition of creating a more sustainable future for all’, stated Antonio Queiroz, Vice President of Innovation, Technology, and Sustainable Development at Braskem.
The Lexington center has been strategically positioned in the biotechnology and innovation ecosystem of Boston, which is close to more than 60 universities. ‘This is a great moment for the corporation, which continues to excel as one of the leaders in CO2 removal through the production of renewable materials. This center further strengthens our ability to create solutions that meet current and future needs’, said Mark Nikolich, CEO of Braskem America.
