Engineers from China spent more than 580 days drilling in the Taklamakan Desert, and the project reached a depth of 10,910 meters, crossed 12 geological layers, reached rocks more than 500 million years old, and faced temperatures and pressures so extreme that the last 910 meters took almost a year to complete.
Revealing the Winners of the Tekla BIM Awards 2024
Trimble, a global company specializing in technology for positioning, modeling, connectivity, and data analysis, announced the Brazilian winners of the Tekla BIM Awards 2024. The competition highlighted projects that excelled due to their innovative and excellent use of Tekla software in Structural Engineering.
Awarded Projects at the Tekla BIM Awards
Among the awardees are the Albert Einstein Learning and Research Center, which won in the Public Projects category, and the MRV Arena – Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, winner in the Commercial Projects category. In the Industrial Projects category, Dexco – Lot 070 was the highlight, while the Santa Tereza 2A project garnered preference in the Popular Vote. These projects exemplify the transformation that Building Information Modeling (BIM) is bringing to civil construction, raising standards of complexity and efficiency.
Advanced Techniques and Complex Structures
In São Paulo, the Albert Einstein Learning and Research Center, developed by Andrade Rezende Engenharia, stood out for its complex roof structure with asymmetric curves, which required high precision in the design. Tekla Structures was essential to ensure the roof was designed with the accuracy needed to meet the client’s requirements. In Belo Horizonte, the MRV Arena – Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, carried out by Codeme Engenharia S.A., used Tekla to facilitate precise visualization of interferences and speed up the production of manufacturing drawings and assembly diagrams.
Precision and Safety in Construction
Precision in predicting the weights and centers of gravity of the pieces was crucial for the safe planning of lifting trussed structures weighing up to 26 tons with heavy-duty cranes. This precision was vital for the success of the assembly of components with complex geometries. In Botucatu, the Dexco – Lot 070 project, led by Pré-vale, leveraged Tekla to enhance visualization and monitoring of the work. Efficient compatibility of the metal structures and equipment foundations, along with verification of reinforcement interferences, minimized risks of errors and rework.
Technological Innovations and Compatibility
The use of these resources ensured structural integrity and quality of construction, allowing precise decisions throughout the project. In Aracaju, in the Santa Tereza 2A project, executed by Pedreira Topázio, the use of Tekla Structures and Trimble Connect was decisive for the project’s success. The tools allowed the creation of specific variables and formulas in the ‘Organizer’, meeting the client’s demands with a 100% accurate model. This resulted in efficient compatibility and more precise quantities, demonstrating the relevance of Open BIM technology in delivering high-quality projects.
Impact of the Tekla BIM Awards on the Industry
Over the years, the Tekla BIM Awards has established itself as a prominent platform for innovation in civil construction. It is inspiring to see how companies are using the BIM methodology to create increasingly complex and efficient structural solutions. The Innovation in Construction competition not only recognizes technical excellence but also celebrates the transformative impact that BIM is bringing to the construction industry.
Events and Global Recognition
Carlos Costa, Technical and Sales Director at Trimble in Brazil, commented: ‘This award not only recognizes technical excellence but also celebrates the transformative impact that BIM is bringing to the construction industry.’ The competition is held in two stages: a local selection in Brazil, followed by the global phase at the Tekla Global BIM Awards. The local award ceremony will take place on October 4, 2024, at the Holiday Inn Anhembi, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During the event, there will be several lectures and panels on the use of Tekla in different sectors of construction, including from prefabricated structures to mining.
