Chinese automaker BYD revealed the launch of the Leopard 5, a new robust and versatile SUV, ready to compete with the renowned Chevrolet Trailblazer and Toyota SW4. Designed for the global market, including Brazil, the Leopard 5 stands out for its powerful 680 horsepower hybrid configuration, advanced off-road features such as adjustable air suspension and three differential locks, as well as an impressive range of up to 1200 km with a full tank and cargo.
BYD, one of the fastest growing automakers in the global automotive market, has unveiled its newest SUV, the Leopard 5, under the Fang Chain B sub-brand, focused on vehicles with fitness for adventure and challenging terrains. The Leopard 5, launched in late 2023, debuts with BYD's new DMO platform, designed to compete with established SUVs such as the Land Rover Defender and the Jeep Renegade and Wrangler models, but could be a thorn in the side of the Chevrolet Trailblazer and SW4 in the Brazil.
With generous dimensions and an aggressive aesthetic, the Leopard 5 measures 4,89 meters in length due to the external spare tire, although the actual length of the vehicle is 4,58 meters. The model also stands out for its wheelbase of 2,80 meters, width of 1,96 meters and height of 1,81 meters, offering ample internal space and a 600-liter trunk.
1.5 four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine and two electric motors
Equipped with a 1.5 turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine and two electric motors, BYD's Leopard 5 offers an impressive combined power of 680 horsepower, providing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4,8 seconds. In addition to its robust performance, the SUV guarantees a combined range of 1200 km and can travel up to 125 km in all-electric mode, recharging the batteries in just 16 minutes in fast stations.

True competitor in the off-road segment
Destined to be a true competitor in the off-road segment, the Leopard 5 is equipped with all-wheel drive, three differential locks, electronic low gear and adjustable air suspension, which can raise the vehicle by up to 15 cm. Inside, the SUV doesn't skimp on luxury, offering high-quality finishes, electrical adjustments, seat heating and ventilation, as well as a complete arsenal of driver assistance technologies.

BYD plans to make the Leopard 5 available in all markets where it operates, including Brazil, with the first units scheduled for delivery from 2025. The launch in the Chinese market is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024, with prices starting at 400.000 yuan, approximately 275.000 reais in direct conversion. A arrival of the model to Brazil and other global markets is expected for the second half of 2024, promising to significantly impact the luxury SUV segment.
