Crossover with BYD Seal Platform and Electric Motors, But with Advanced Technologies Like Biometric Reading, Raised Suspension, and Fast Charging.

The BYD Song L is based on the BYD Seal platform, but with a raised (and adaptive) suspension and a four-door coupe-style body, along with the same electric motors as the Seal. In summary, the more powerful and sporty Song is still a novelty in China, having premiered in mid-November with prices ranging from 189,800 yuan (R$ 132,409 in direct conversion) to 249,800 yuan (R$ 174,266). But don’t get your hopes up: the BYD Song L is not yet confirmed as one of the manufacturer’s future releases in Brazil.

The BYD Song L is an electric crossover with advanced technology and high power. With a raised (and adaptive) suspension and a four-door coupe-style body, the Song L promises to revolutionize the market as an advanced technology vehicle. In short, the BYD Song L is a powerful and sporty option that may surprise even the most demanding consumers.

BYD Song L: An Electric Crossover with Advanced Technology

We got to know the Song L at an event at BYD’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China. The model is manufactured right there and was even used to demonstrate BYD’s future technologies, such as unlocking doors via biometric hand reading, but it was possible to understand its proposal.

The BYD Song L, a hybrid electric vehicle, is part of the Dinasty line and would fill the gap between Yuan Plus and Song Plus and the high-end models, Tan and Han. In practice, the electric crossover is more sophisticated than the Seal.

What Is the BYD Song L Like

The advanced technology vehicle is based on the BYD Seal’s e-Platform 3.0, which uses the battery as a structural part of the car, increasing its torsional rigidity. It measures 4.84 m in length, 1.95 m in width, and 2.93 m in wheelbase. Despite the frames around the wheel arches, the ground clearance is 15.6 cm – compared to 12 cm of the Seal.

The front features elements from the Dinasty line, like the fake grille integrating the full LED headlights. On the sides of the front bumper, vents that channel air to the front wheels. The lower air intake is active, opening only when necessary, and houses the radar and front camera.

On the side, the wheel arch trims are narrow and have a glossy black finish, as do the pillars – thus, the (glass) roof appears to float. The cool thing is that the doors have no frames for the side windows (which are double-glazed), as in traditional coupes.

The rear has elements of sports cars, such as the vertical brake lights integrated into the upper spoiler. This is because there is an active spoiler on the trunk that opens at 90 km/h to increase stability – like in some Porsches and Audis, for example. It also has a fog light in the diffuser, at the base of the bumper, much like racing cars.

The interior of the BYD Song L follows the minimalist style seen in other models from the brand but still incorporates physical buttons – three of them, made of crystal. A set of buttons for auxiliary systems stands out around the gear selector. The steering wheel also has an interesting design, with lateral spokes and physical buttons.

The digital instrument cluster is 10.35 inches, but there is a head-up display with 3D projection equivalent to 50 inches in front of the driver. The rotating multimedia screen measures 15.6 inches. In the A-pillar is a facial recognition camera to identify the driver.

The console features a 50W wireless charger and underneath is the storage compartment with USB ports and a memory card slot. This is where images from the cameras that record traffic are stored, already integrated into the car.

The finishing is good, even on the surfaces of the dashboard. In the back, there are no issues with headroom or legroom, and the person sitting on the right side can adjust the front seat to increase space, using side controls – like in the Han sedan. Between the front seats, a 5.8-inch screen controls the rear air conditioning (which can disperse fragrance).

The Song L also has a Dynaudio HiFi sound system with 12 speakers, Wi-Fi networking with a 5G data modem, and 11 airbags. According to BYD, 83.5% of the structure is made of high-strength steels, aluminum, and composite materials.

Another highlight of the car is the Disus-C suspension, which controls the damping response in real-time to make the ride more comfortable, or adapt to driving modes or situations like curves, accelerations, and braking.

The Motors and Versions of the BYD Song L

The BYD Song L, an electric crossover, is sold in China in five versions, four of which have a rear engine. Of these, two have the rear engine of 203 hp (0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds) and use the Blade battery of 71.8 kWh, with a range of 550 km, while the other two have 313 hp (0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 s) and the 87 kWh setup that increases the range to 662 km.

Only the top version has two motors with SiC technology, raising its power to 517 hp and torque to 68.3 kgfm. Even with the larger battery, its range is 602 km. It reaches 100 km/h in half the time, in 4.3 seconds, with the help of a torque vectoring system. The top speed is 201 km/h.

More advanced, the BYD Song L already accepts fast charging with a power of up to 140 kW and also provides 6 kW in V2L mode, which allows to power a house or electrical devices.

BYD Dolphin Mini: R$ 100,000 ELECTRIC CAR is Better Than It Seems The launch of the BYD Dolphin disrupted the price range of the cheapest electric cars in Brazil, back in mid-2023. The BYD Dolphin Mini, which launches shortly after Carnival, has the potential to disrupt even the compact car segment with a 1.0 engine.
