Renewed plug-in hybrid SUV will be launched in June 2026 as the 2027 line, will have a flex engine, updated visual, combined power of up to 235 hp, and full production expected at the BYD factory in Camaçari, Bahia

The renewed BYD Song Pro will be launched in Brazil in June 2026 with an important novelty under the hood: the plug-in hybrid SUV will have a flex engine, in addition to an updated visual and full production expected at the Camaçari factory in Bahia. The arrival in stores is scheduled for June 2026, and the model will already be presented as the 2027 line.

The confirmation came after BYD announced the production of the renewed Song Pro for this year. The launch date was revealed by the brand itself during the Beijing Auto Show in China. In addition to the visual changes at the front and rear, the most relevant technical point for the Brazilian market is the adoption of the flex engine, a less apparent change but central to the strategy of the national SUV.

Even with the confirmation of the new flex version, there is still no detailed new information about the mechanical set. The base will be the same as the configuration powered only by gasoline. The system starts with a 1.5 naturally aspirated engine of 110 hp, combined with an electric motor. Together, the engines deliver 223 hp or 235 hp, depending on the version.

The 18.3 kWh battery is also expected to be maintained in the renewed Song Pro. The power should not change with the use of ethanol, maintaining the already known numbers from the current configuration. Thus, the main mechanical change confirmed so far is the ability to operate with flex fuel, with no indication of changes in the performance data reported for the SUV versions.

SUV debuts as the 2027 line with flex engine

The new Song Pro will arrive in the Brazilian market as the 2027 line. The debut in June 2026 will place the renewed model in stores with the aim of expanding BYD’s presence in the plug-in hybrid SUV segment.

The flex engine will be the main technical novelty of the model produced in Brazil. The change appears in a set that remains based on the 1.5 naturally aspirated engine and the electric motor. The combination maintains the plug-in hybrid proposal of the Song Pro, with an 18.3 kWh battery and combined power of up to 235 hp, depending on the version.

The brand has not yet disclosed new specifications regarding consumption, range, or changes in the operation of the hybrid system with ethanol. No changes to the battery have been reported either. Thus, the set described for the flex Song Pro remains linked to the already known data of the gasoline configuration.

Renewed visual follows Dragon Face philosophy

In addition to the mechanical novelty, the renewed Song Pro will have a redesigned front. The style follows the Dragon Face philosophy, the same applied in the most recent launches of BYD. The front features sharp headlights now interconnected by a chrome horizontal bar.

The front bumper has also been updated, as well as the lower grille and air intakes. The visual set makes the SUV resemble the BYD Tan. The wheels have been redesigned, while the rear has not received drastic changes.

In terms of dimensions, the restyled Song Pro measures 4.73 meters in length, 1.86 meters in width, and 1.71 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.71 meters. The renewed model is 3 mm shorter than the version currently sold in Brazil. The approach and departure angles are 18 and 22 degrees, respectively.

Full production will be in Camaçari

The Song Pro will have full production at the BYD factory in Camaçari, Bahia. The welding and painting stages will be carried out at the complex, which differentiates the SUV from other models of the Chinese brand that follow a different type of assembly. The vehicle will not be produced in a CKD arrangement.

This information was confirmed by BYD’s senior vice president, Alexandre Baldy, during a visit to the brand’s facilities in Bahia. For the Song Pro and other national models to have full production, the warehouses responsible for painting, welding, and stamping need to be completed.

Currently, these structures are under construction and have reached 70% of the work completed. The metal structure is already taking shape on the ground, with some areas covered. The construction of other warehouses resumed in July 2025, after adjustments made by BYD related to allegations of analogous to slavery involving the contractor hired by the manufacturer.

In less than seven months, the foundation was prepared and much of the new processes’ warehouses were completed. While the construction is not finished, another warehouse, covering about 160,000 m², inaugurated last October, continues to assemble vehicles in the SKD regime, considered a basic level of manufacturing.

In this system, the cars arrive already painted, with doors, windows, and interior assembled. The local assembly involves wheels, tires, suspension, and the joining of the mechanical set and battery with the rest of the monocoque.

For now, only one shift operates in assembly. The second shift is in the experimentation phase and is expected to start in the coming months. In total, 2,300 people work on site. Another 2,500 employees are divided between outsourced workers and construction employees. Every day, 420 finished units leave the factory heading to the newly built yards.
