The New Chery Pickup Truck Is About to Debut in the Chinese Automotive Market, Promising to Shake Up the Utility Segment. Named Chery KP11, the Model Arrives with a Bold Proposal to Win Over the Public and Compete Directly with the BYD Shark.
Chinese brands have increasingly gained space in the global automotive market, and Chery was a pioneer in this journey in Brazil. Before the current boom of Chinese manufacturers, Chery was already present in the country with the inauguration of its factory in Jacareí (SP) in 2014 — the brand’s first unit outside China. In 2017, part of its operations was acquired by the Caoa Group, consolidating its position in the national market. Now, Chery seeks to expand its presence by entering the competitive pickup segment, with the launch of the promising Chery KP11, which promises to impress with its design and technology.
Will the New Chery Pickup Truck Reach the Brazilian Automotive Market?
To this end, Chery is preparing a new medium double-cabin pickup built on a ladder frame chassis to rival the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Chevrolet S10. This is the Chery KP11 project. With plug-in hybrid power, it still does not have a definitive name and will be a direct rival to the BYD Shark.
With a design that follows the trends of current medium pickups, the Chery KP11 was presented in Wuhu (China) at the brand’s headquarters, but it is expected to be launched only in 2025 in the Chinese automotive market. The design of the Chery KP11 is quite similar to the final version, but there is no certainty about the name under which it will reach dealerships. The information comes from the portals Rutamotor and Autoindustriya.

Check Out the Main Details of the New Chery Pickup Truck That Competes with the BYD Shark
The visual appeal of the Chery KP11 follows the main trends already present in other models in the segment. The hood does not feature such straight lines and, like the Fiat Toro, the headlight arrangement is below the daytime running lights, which feature a very sleek design.
The assembly is next to the front grille, which, besides being gigantic, has a mesh divided into horizontal lines and the brand name in large letters at the top.
At the rear, the brand name is also present, just like the BYD Shark’s cargo bed cover. This time, however, the embossed letters are made directly on the body of the truck, instead of using appliqués, as is the case with the grille. The taillights of the new Chery pickup truck in the automotive market are vertical and located at the ends of the cargo bed.
On the sides of the Chery KP11, it is possible to identify black sidestep and wheel arches, with the latter being more robust, similar to those of the Chinese rival and sales leader, Toyota Hilux. As this is a prototype, the new Chery pickup truck has not yet revealed the cabin. Nevertheless, there are chances that the interior finish will be inspired by Omoda SUVs, a Chinese brand owned by Chery.
What Engine Is Beneath the Hood of the New Chery Pickup Truck?
According to data, the production Chery KP11 will have an approximate length of 5.30 meters. For context, the Shark measures 5.45 m. The classic rivals Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Chevrolet S10 measure 5.32 m, 5.35 m, and 5.36 m, respectively.
Chery, however, has not provided official data regarding its dimensions, nor the load and towing capacity of the cargo bed.
The expectation is that the brand will invest in three mechanical assembly options for the new medium pickup. Thus, the Chery KP11 will arrive at dealerships in combustion, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions. Apparently, the combustion configurations of the KP11 are set to receive a 2.4 turbo gasoline engine.
