With the announcement, the port of Espírito Santo entered the route of significant green hydrogen projects planned in the country, at the ports of Pecém, Suape, and Açu. Unlike other projects where green ammonia is exported elsewhere, the Canadian project is focused on supplying the domestic market.
According to Gary Benninger, CEO of the company, this is an important step for his company to work with the port to build one of the leading sustainable energy ports in the world.

The technology of the Canadian company will allow the use of green hydrogen and ammonia as a fuel source for large vessels at the port of Espírito Santo. According to Benninger, the company will contribute to supplying renewable energy to the Brazilian power grid, as well as producing clean fertilizers.
Strategic Location of the Port Contributes to Project Choice
Porto Central is located near oil and gas exploration and production activities, as well as offshore wind energy projects. According to Votu Winds, the forecast is to generate 1,440 MW of installed capacity through the implementation of 144 towers with a capacity of 10 MW each in offshore wind parks between the municipalities of Itapemirim, Presidente Kennedy, and Marataízes, where the port is located in Espírito Santo.
In Rio de Janeiro, four of the six largest offshore projects under construction in the country are concentrated. Among them are the Ventos do Atlântico projects, the second largest in Brazil, with over 370 wind turbines and more than 5GW of capacity. Following that is the Aracatu wind farm by Equinor, which has 320 turbines and a capacity of 3.8 GW.
For Jose Salomão Fadlalah, CEO of Porto Central, the partnership with AmmPower for the construction of the green ammonia production facility is directly aligned with the goals of developing a Clean Energy Hub in the state. According to the statement, Porto Central will allow the Canadian company to transport green ammonia and hydrogen throughout the ES region via its liquid bulk terminal. Additionally, a new deep-water port industrial complex will be developed, providing access to highways and future railways.
