Joining Forces for a Cleaner and More Efficient Energy Matrix in Brazil.
In a joint effort to enhance its environmental responsibility, Cargill is intensifying its collaboration with Omega Energia. This partnership expansion will focus on a new wind farm project located in the heart of Bahia, aimed at powering all of Cargill’s operations in Brazil.
A Renewed Energy Partnership
Located in the cities of Xique-Xique and Gentio do Ouro, the wind farm, which is currently under construction, will be activated in January 2025. It will incorporate the Assuruá 5 – I and III plants, showcasing an impressive total capacity of 81.2 MW. Most of this production will power Cargill’s units spread across Brazil.
Gabriel Garbin, Regional Energy Director at Cargill, emphasizes the importance of this partnership: “This agreement reflects our ongoing commitment to clean energy and efficiency in our operations. It is also directly aligned with our sustainability mission and our determination to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

Africa has about 500,000 cell towers and most still burn diesel to operate, while companies rush to cover antennas with solar energy and avoid signal blackouts.

Farmers swapped diesel for solar panels in Pakistan, powered irrigation pumps almost cost-free, expanded rice fields, and now groundwater has become a red alert in the countryside.

Migrant workers left the world’s largest renewable energy park in India after extreme heat, 12-hour shifts, delayed wages, and poor accommodations at a site that still promises to supply 18 million homes.
Leveraging Sustainability in Agribusiness
Fabiana Polido, Commercial Director at Omega Energia, highlights the symbiosis between agribusiness and renewable energy. “In a world where it is estimated that US$ 5.7 trillion will be needed by 2030 to curb climate change, partnerships like this one with Cargill are crucial to steer us toward a more sustainable future,” she says.
Reinforcing this vision, it is worth noting that as early as 2022, Cargill and Omega Energia had sealed an agreement aimed at supplying northeastern facilities with wind energy. With the new alliance in 2025, Cargill is further advancing in its sustainability journey, becoming self-generating and deriving most of its energy from renewable sources.
The Legacy of Cargill
Cargill is not just a global company; it is a force driving world nourishment. With a presence in over 160,000 locations worldwide, including 11,000 in Brazil, Cargill is dedicated to innovating and creating sustainable solutions. Whether providing nutritious food or creating renewable fuels, Cargill strives to make a difference.
