French Government Seeks To Boost Electric Car Acquisition In The Country And Plans To Launch Its Electric Car Subscription Program This Year.
With the aim of boosting the acquisition process of electric vehicles in its fleet, the French government is planning to launch, later this year, an electric car subscription service for just 100 euros per month, equivalent to R$ 551.54. This service will feature electric models produced in European territory.
Europe Plans To End Combustion Vehicles By 2035
The European Parliament approved by majority a new legislation that sets a deadline for phasing out gasoline and diesel cars. The European Commission’s proposal is for these vehicles to cease being used by 2035.
A decision that will also mean the disappearance of any type of hybrid or biofuel-powered vehicle. In the future envisioned by the European lawmakers, there will be space only for battery-powered electric cars and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

Conscious of the established roadmap, the countries that are part of the European Union must face a significant challenge, which is getting their citizens to make the transition to electric cars.
It is important to mention that France is one of the countries in Europe where the electric car holds a greater market share, and this measure to offer an electric car subscription for just 100 euros monthly aims to make electric cars even more accessible, especially for less privileged families.
According to France’s Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, the electric car subscription system for 100 euros will be ready later this year and will be called social rental, being one of the campaign promises of Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic.
French Government To Invest In Infrastructure For Electric Car Subscriptions
The aforementioned Ministry of Ecological Transition is working to make it possible to take the first effective reservations before the end of this year. It has not yet been announced if there will be any income criteria to qualify for this benefit.
Béchu indicated that the government will also increase its investments in charging infrastructure, focusing on increasing the number of publicly accessible points in a short period, in order to support the electric car subscription program.
It is worth noting that the French government already subsidizes 6,000 euros to workers who purchase an electric car costing less than 47,000 euros, with the possibility of additional assistance linked to another federal program, allowing owners of old combustion engine cars to receive money in exchange for scrapping the vehicle.
However, in the first 7 months of last year, the purchase of electric models in the country represented only 12% of the total vehicles sold during that period. The new proposal is expected to benefit European automakers that operate with EVs, such as Renault, Peugeot, and Volkswagen.
Sony And Honda To Launch Electric Car Subscription
Sony and Honda will launch an electric car subscription in 2026, as a result of Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture that combines the two companies.
According to the companies, the model will enter the U.S. and Japan markets. However, these will be the first countries to receive the innovation. The estimated opening for orders is 2025. After the model is launched in the two countries, the companies are considering launching it in Europe.
So far, there is no information on the possibility or date of this service arriving in Brazil. The positioning of the electric car in the market will be premium, and in addition, the partnership between the Japanese automaker and the electronics company will also yield an entertainment system.
