During Event in Barcelona, Luca De Meo Criticizes the Style of Tesla Cars, Comparing Them to Household Appliances, and Argues That Electric Vehicles Can Have Identity and Emotion.

The CEO of Renault, Luca De Meo, made direct criticisms of Tesla during the presentation of his new book in Barcelona. For him, the cars of the American brand have become “like a refrigerator“, without personality.

During the launch of the Spanish edition of Diccionario sentimental del automóvil, De Meo stated that Tesla vehicles lack emotion. “Tesla is like a refrigerator and all cars will end up being like this if they are built the same way,” he declared.

Despite the criticism, the executive argued that electric cars can be engaging. “If the car learns every day, reads what is around it, sees what is on your phone, and organizes your life, you create a very animal, human relationship with the product,” he stated.

De Meo, 67, and former CEO of Seat and CUPRA, emphasized that European brands have an advantage in this scenario. “We have the ability to interpret brands, culture, emotion,” he said.

The statement comes amid rumors of leadership changes at Tesla and a drop in the company’s sales.
