Nissan Kicks e-POWER 4WD sold in Japan combines all-wheel electric drive, series hybrid system, and a converted price of around R$ 97,500.

In June 2026, the Nissan Kicks sold in Japan remains one of the most unique compact SUVs in the brand’s global lineup. While the model sold in Brazil uses a conventional combustion engine, the Japanese version relies on the e-POWER system, a technology where the wheels are driven by electric motors, while the gasoline engine primarily acts as a power generator. According to Nissan Japan, the Kicks can also be equipped with all-wheel electric drive (4WD), a configuration not available in the Brazilian market.

Another point that draws attention is the price. According to the official Nissan catalog and the Goo-net Exchange database, the Kicks X version is priced at ¥3,083,300 in Japan. Using the approximate direct conversion of 1 yen = R$ 0.031638, the amount corresponds to about R$ 97,500, without considering Brazilian taxes, shipping, homologation, importation, or commercial margin.

e-POWER system transforms the Japanese Kicks into an electric SUV that takes gasoline

The main differentiator of the Japanese Kicks is in the operation of the mechanical set. According to Nissan, the e-POWER system uses a 1,198 cm³ HR12 family gasoline engine to generate electricity, while the wheel movement is done by electric motors. This means that the driving behavior is closer to an electric vehicle than a conventional hybrid.

In practice, the driver receives immediate throttle responses, quiet operation in various situations, and energy regeneration during decelerations, characteristics normally associated with electric vehicles.

Nissan was one of the first manufacturers to bet on this series hybrid concept on a large scale, making e-POWER one of the brand’s most important technologies in the Japanese market.

All-wheel electric drive 4WD is one of the most important differences compared to the Brazilian Kicks

According to Nissan and information from the official model history, the 4WD option became available for the Japanese Kicks starting in 2022 through the addition of a second electric motor responsible for the rear axle.

Unlike traditional mechanical all-wheel drive systems, the setup uses electric motors to distribute power between the axles as needed.

This solution improves grip on slippery surfaces, snow, heavy rain, and low-traction terrains, as well as allowing extremely quick responses in torque management.

For Brazilian consumers, the system draws attention because the national Kicks never received a similar configuration.

Fuel efficiency remains one of the major arguments for the e-POWER system

According to data released by Nissan and reproduced by companies specializing in importing the Japanese model, the Kicks e-POWER records a WLTC consumption of 23.0 km/l in 2WD versions and 19.2 km/l in 4WD versions.

Although the numbers are measured by the Japanese WLTC cycle and cannot be directly compared to Brazilian standards, they help to show the system’s proposal.

Nissan’s goal is to combine the driving feel of an electric car with the refueling convenience of a gasoline vehicle. This combination has made e-POWER one of the manufacturer’s central bets in Asian markets.

Dimensions maintain the urban compact SUV proposal

Despite the mechanical changes, the Japanese Kicks continues to occupy the compact SUV segment. Data released by Nissan shows a length close to 4.29 meters, a width of 1.76 meters, and a height of approximately 1.61 meters, dimensions similar to many compact SUVs sold globally.

The result is a vehicle designed for urban use but equipped with a propulsion technology quite different from that found in the most common models in the segment. According to Nissan, the Kicks e-POWER incorporates features developed to improve comfort and safety.

Among the highlights are the Zero Gravity seats, developed to reduce fatigue on long trips, as well as electronic driver assistance systems present in the more complete versions.

The update launched by Nissan also brought visual improvements, new multimedia systems, and driving assistance features in markets that received the renewed version of the model.

A Kicks very different from the one known by Brazilians

The Nissan Kicks e-POWER 4WD shows how the same model can take on completely different proposals depending on the market.

While the SUV sold in Brazil follows a more traditional formula, the Japanese version bets on electric propulsion, series hybrid system, and electric all-wheel drive.

With a price equivalent to about R$ 97,500 in direct conversion, the model stands out not only for its value but mainly for the technology that would hardly be associated with the Kicks known by Brazilian consumers.
