Seatrium Delivered The Floating Unit FSRU Energos Celsius To New Fortress Energy For The Regasification Project At The LNG Terminal In Barcarena, Brazil.
The Singaporean company Seatrium has completed the delivery of the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Energos Celsius to New Fortress Energy (NFE) in the United States. The unit will be deployed at NFE’s newly constructed LNG terminal in Barcarena, Brazil.
This is Seatrium’s fourth FSRU project for Brazil, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to support the development and growth of the country’s oil and gas industry. The floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) will be an important addition to Brazil’s energy infrastructure.
Development Of The FSRU And Floating LNG Terminal
The floating unit, floating terminal, or FSRU, as mentioned above, is part of the development of the LNG import terminal of NFE in Barcarena. This terminal will have a nominal regasification capacity of 750 to 1,000 million standard cubic feet per day. Additionally, it includes a long-term gas contract to supply Norsk Hydro at the alumina refinery Alunorte, as well as a gas project for 630 MW power being constructed by NFE and other energy and fuel expansion projects in the region.

Asset-Based Financing For Regasification Project
In November 2023, NFE finalized agreements with the Brazilian development bank Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES) and funds managed by Lumina Capital Management and BTG Asset Management to finance up to US$ 575 million in asset-based financing to complete the construction of its 630 MW plant in Barcarena. This plant, located adjacent to NFE’s LNG import terminal, is scheduled to begin operations in the third quarter of 2025 under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with several electricity distribution companies in Brazil.
Additional Developments From New Fortress Energy
Additionally, NFE revealed that the construction of its Santa Catarina terminal (TGS) in Brazil is complete, and the company looks forward to the arrival of the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Energos Winter in January 2024. This LNG import terminal is considered the first LNG import facility in the state of Pará and the Northern region of Brazil. This is a significant milestone for NFE’s project and demonstrates the company’s commitment to developing gas and energy projects in the region, ensuring a reliable supply of natural gas for the alumina refinery Alunorte and other energy and fuel expansion projects in Northern Brazil.
