Efficiency, turbo engine, and competitive price place the Chevrolet Onix among the most observed compacts in the country, in a market where consumption, safety, and cost of use increasingly weigh on Brazilians’ purchasing decisions.

The Chevrolet Onix 1.0 Turbo appears among the main highlights of energy efficiency in Brazil in 2026, according to the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program, coordinated by Inmetro.

Among the flex-fuel combustion cars evaluated by the agency, the Chevrolet hatch and the Onix Plus 1.0 aspirated appear as efficiency champions in the year’s table.

This position helps explain why the model remains among the most observed options for those seeking low consumption, competitive price, and performance superior to aspirated 1.0 versions.

To achieve the result, Inmetro’s table considers consumption, emissions, autonomy, and energy efficiency of light vehicles sold in the country, creating a comparison base for the consumer.

Onix 1.0 Turbo leads among flex-fuel combustion cars

The 2026 edition of the PBE Veicular gathers more than 760 models and versions, with participation from 39 brands, and allows comparison of different technologies available in the national market.

In this broad set, the Chevrolet Onix 1.0 Turbo stands out among traditional flex-fuel cars, a category that still accounts for an important part of sales in Brazil.

The significance of the result increases because the program is not limited to the numbers reported by manufacturers, as the data undergo criteria defined for vehicle labeling.

Since Inmetro Ordinance No. 169, of 2023, the values disclosed on the label and in communication pieces need to be adjusted to reflect conditions closer to everyday use.

In practice, the ranking becomes more useful for those comparing entry-level and compact cars with a focus on cost of use, especially in urban and road routes.

Still, real consumption may vary according to route, fuel, tire calibration, load carried, and driving style, factors that directly influence the final expense.

Turbo engine of the Chevrolet Onix

In the current line released by Chevrolet, the Onix starts at R$ 99,990 and offers versions with a turbo engine, manual or six-speed automatic transmission, safety, and connectivity.

According to the brand, the Onix 2027 uses a turbo engine with 115 hp and 16.8 kgfm of torque, a combination that seeks to balance performance, economy, and daily use.

The configuration below R$ 100,000 appears in the Turbo AT ECO version, listed by the manufacturer with a six-speed automatic transmission and a 100% ethanol turbo engine.

As prices may vary depending on the state and dealership negotiations, Chevrolet itself emphasizes that the disclosed values serve as a national reference.

With an automatic transmission in a configuration below six digits, the model appeals to buyers who drive a lot in urban traffic and seek comfort.

For app drivers, fleet operators, and users who travel long distances, economy and comfort tend to weigh more in the decision than just the initial price.

Onix Equipment and Safety

In addition to energy efficiency, the Onix offers items that help sustain its competitiveness in the compact hatch segment, especially against rivals with similar proposals.

Chevrolet reports that the model has six airbags and stability control in all versions, a relevant combination for basic safety in daily use.

The equipment list also includes the Chevrolet MyLink center, a rear camera, and a key with a presence sensor in specific versions of the line.

In higher configurations, the brand mentions features such as a digital dashboard, induction charger, digital air conditioning, and parking assistant, expanding the technological package.

With this set, the Onix occupies a market range where fuel economy no longer serves as an isolated purchase argument.

Today, consumers tend to compare connectivity, safety, comfort, driver assistance, and maintenance costs before deciding which compact makes more sense.

Onix Consumption at Inmetro

The reputation of “most economical car” needs to be read within the criteria adopted by Inmetro, to avoid direct comparison between very different categories.

In the case of the Onix 1.0 Turbo, the highlight refers to energy efficiency among flex-fuel combustion cars evaluated in the PBEV 2026 Table.

This means that the result does not necessarily represent the lowest absolute expenditure in any usage situation, as technology, route, and fuel change the calculation.

Electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid models follow their own comparison criteria and also appear in the table, with performance evaluated in other categories.

Inmetro cites, for example, electric and hybrid vehicles as highlights in specific segments of energy efficiency, which reinforces the need to observe the correct context.

Even so, among traditional flex cars, the Onix gains relevance by combining a turbo engine, adequate highway performance, and competitive fuel consumption.

This combination allows the model to compete for space both with simpler aspirated compacts and with more expensive versions of direct rivals.

What to observe before buying an Onix

Before choosing a new Onix 1.0 Turbo, the central point is to compare version, final price, and the package of equipment offered in each configuration.

The difference between a manual, automatic, or ECO configuration can alter consumption, perceived performance, fuel availability, and total cost of use over time.

In the case of pre-owned vehicles, the analysis should include the maintenance history, overall engine condition, and maintenance records, especially in units with high mileage.

Turbo engines require attention to the correct oil, replacement intervals, and maintenance performed according to the manufacturer’s guidelines, as these care factors affect durability and performance.

Good performance in Inmetro does not eliminate this check, as the label indicates efficiency under standardized conditions and does not replace individual vehicle evaluation.

In real use, the cost to the owner also depends on the car’s maintenance, the type of route, the driving style, and the regularity of maintenance.
