In the Urban Scenario of São Paulo, Known for Its Concrete Landscape and Bustle, Rises the Cidade Matarazzo, a Luxury Megaproject That Promises to Revolutionize Engineering in the Paulista Capital.
Conceived by French entrepreneur Alexandre Allard and architect Jean Nouvel, this project is the largest restoration in Latin America, combining historical preservation with luxurious modernity.
Founded in 1904, the megaproject began with the Matarazzo Hospital, located in the Bela Vista neighborhood, near Avenida Paulista, which was a landmark in medical assistance for Italian immigrants in Brazil, more specifically in São Paulo.
After years of neglect, the complex was purchased in 2011 by the international group of Allard for 117 million reais. With government approval and the Historical Heritage Defense Council, the restoration and revitalization project began to take shape.

Cidade Matarazzo: An Oasis of Glamour and Nature in SP
The goal of Cidade Matarazzo is to create an oasis of nature and glamour in the heart of São Paulo. The complex will include a six-star palace hotel, a cultural center, 34 dining spots, a fashion mega store with over 70 exclusive brands, spaces for musical performances, among other attractions.
The first phase of the project was delivered in 2022, with the promise to preserve the original characteristics of the historic buildings.
Innovation and Sustainability: The Engineering Behind the Project
One of the most impressive aspects of the project is the technique used to move the Chapel of Santa Luzia and the Countess Filomena Matarazzo Maternity.
The chapel, weighing 1,400 tons, was moved using a innovative technique, keeping its historic structure intact. The project also stands out for using high-density concrete, a more sustainable option that reduces water consumption during construction.
The hotel in the complex, which partially opened in 2022, will offer 164 luxury residential suites designed by Philippe Starck and decorated with works by contemporary Brazilian artists.
The Mata Atlântica Tower, designed by Jean Nouvel, will be a symbol of São Paulo, featuring an imposing facade and 250 trees on its slabs, creating a unique connection with Brazilian vegetation.
Job Creation: The Future of Cidade Matarazzo
The Cidade Matarazzo is not just a restoration project, but a driver of economic and cultural transformation.
Generating over 15,000 direct and indirect jobs, with investments totaling 3 billion reais, the complex promises to be a new meeting point for locals and visitors, offering a unique experience of art, culture, and gastronomy.
Cidade Matarazzo is set to become the new postcard of São Paulo, alongside icons such as MASP, Edifício Itália, and Copan.
This megaproject represents a new era for the city, where history meets innovation, creating a unique space of luxury, culture, and sustainability.
